Trans News Now 1/9/23
Zooey Zephyr is sworn in as a member of the Montana State Legislature. Arizona’s governor issues a proclamation to strengthen the rights of LGBTQ+ workers. Meanwhile, several red states impose more restrictions on trans people. Oklahoma wants to ban trans care till the age of 26. Kim Petras will close out the show at World Pride in Sydney, Australia in March. GM gives money to GLAAD to send info about trans people to schools. Jen Richards will be in the cast of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. In a new comic book story the Joker gets pregnant and fans on the right are outraged. Dina’s Diner 1/9/23
The first Dina’s Diner menu for 2023 starts off with a nod to the influence of Asian cuisine as Chef Dina introduces us to Chinese trans woman Fei Lu. Then she looks at just how much makeup is right to let the natural beauty shine through. While that dish simmers on the stove Dina stirs in some sexy boots and posing for the perfect photo. Trauma Passed Down
Rabbah Rona Matlow recently submitted a scholarly paper about generational trauma in the Book of Genesis, in the Hebrew Bible. She has found evidence that the trauma experienced by previous generations is passed down to children and grandchildren of those who experienced the original pain. Not only does she find it in the Book of Genesis but in members of the transgender community.
Crossdresser’s Guide to Stepping Out by Carolyn Woodward
Today’s Retro Rerun from the TGF Archives is from the 1990s. The general public had not evolved to more acceptance of crossdressers and trans women out and about in society. Passing to avoid ridicule was important to members of the developing trans community and contributors to TGForum had advice on how to go undetected while expressing femininity in public. The advice in this article by Carolyne Woodward is still good in the 21st century if your goal is to blend in. If some of it seems silly remember to view it in context.

Here’s the news! A trans woman candidate for city council in Trenton, NJ wins by one vote. The Biden administration works to repeal a Trump-era rule that allowed doctors to refuse treatment to trans people. President Biden did five things that benefit the trans community in 2022. Missouri’s legislature introduces 10 bills aimed at transgender athletes, making more bills in the state than there are trans athletes. Victoria’s Secret named transgender actress Bell Agam as their brand envoy for Israel. WBC creates a new category for trans people to compete in. Clive Barker wants to remake The Mummy with a transgender twist. Bob the Drag Queen and Monet X Change appear in The Simpsons. A transgender man in London creates a calendar to show the beauty of transgender bodies. The Scottish National Parliament passes its reform of the Gender Recognition Act. Trans Organization Pulls “Biological Condition” Article
A U.K. transgender website announced it was going to publish a paper by an anonymous research scientist claiming that being transgender was a “biological condition.” The press was alerted but without warning, before the date the paper was to be published the site issued a tweet canceling publication. Dana Bevan outlines the reasons why.
Facebook Hates You
Facebook is a great tool for connecting people with similar interests but for the trans community, from drag queens to crossdressers and other gender designations Facebook isn’t doing all it could. Their “real name” policy first impacted the drag community. Queens put up pages using their drag name and Facebook took them down. The Day My Dad Died
When Cassandra Williamson’s father was dying Cassandra had not yet come out and was keeping any hint of her true self hidden from sight. She was a manly Marine Corp officer who had a reputation for doing what needed to be done, more like a machine than a person.
