The Purple M&M.

As we mentioned in the news, M&Ms has announced that they are putting an “indefinite pause” on the use of their cartoon spokescandies, due to complaints by conservatives, especially Tucker Carlson, about recent changes to the characters. The characters changed before, including the introduction female characters (which caused some to joke that the green and brown M&Ms spokescandies are actually transgender). For taking the changes far too seriously, for holding to a sexist standard that women should show their legs for men to stare at, those who got all upset over the new characters get a Twit Award. The Advocate has this story.

A drag show in Salt Lake City, Utah, had to be cancelled due to armed protests. The event was billed as “family-friendly,” meaning that the performers were not using adult humor or sexual moves. Nonetheless, the Proud Boys and other right-wing types protested the event, which got cancelled due to security concerns. For not giving children credit for discerning that drag queens play a character, for presuming a sexual nature that is not present in the performance, and for resorting to threats of violence instead of presenting their argument using reason and logic, the protestors who caused the cancellation of this drag event get a Twit Award. This story comes from The Advocate.

Long Valley Middle School in New Jersey has removed their “Safe Zone” signs, after parents complained that the signs have the rainbow colors of the LGBTQ Pride flag. For displaying the attitude which necessitates the use of a safe space, and for showing exactly why LGBTQ (and especially transgender) students need to be able to access a safe space, those who complained about this sign get a Twit Award. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

Two bills under consideration in West Virginia would prevent minors from exposure to obscene or sexual material. If taken rather broadly, these bills could forbid exposing children to transgender people. For attempting to define transgender people as automatically “obscene,” the sponsors of this bill get a Twit Award. This story comes from NBC News.

Republican state legislators in North Dakota have introduced a bill which aims to prevent schools from accommodating students who identify as an animal. It’s the extension of a totally silly report about “furries.” For proposing a law to stop a thing that isn’t happening, the lawmakers behind this bill, and the people who encourage them in this, get a Twit Award. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
