Time for all the news from the transgender world! What do we learn today? Mara Keisling is fighting the Trump administration to maintain our rights. Michigan honors the creator of International Transgender Day of Visibility. Monica Helms, creator of the trans pride flag, writes about how it feels to see it in the halls of congress. Euro Pride won’t allow groups that demean other groups to participate. As the Equality Act is debated it’s amazing what representatives believe about trans people. Chelsea Manning is out of solitary but still in stir since she won’t talk. Google has appointed the president of the right wing Heritage Foundation to an advisory council and Google employees are not taking it well. Many rural trans people are happy living where they are. Women who dressed as men were viewed as butch lesbians. And all of us were thought of as perverts and possibly child molesters by the majority of the nation. But thanks to concerted efforts by trans activist the real truth about transgender people began to emerge. From weekend support group meetings to the legislatures of several states the transgender journey has marched on. Today Claire Hall asks herself the question, Why Wait? Today we learn many things in TWIT. Among them, Tanwarin Sukkapisit is the first transgender person elected to the parliament of Thailand. All the court stays on the trans military ban have been lifted. Several members of congress posted the transgender pride flag at their office entrances for the International Day of Transgender Visibility. A bill in California would make it illegal to do genital surgery on intersex children without their consent. A bill in Texas would let medical and legal professionals, as well as barbers deny service to people who offend their “deeply-held religious beliefs.” A research study shows that trans women have better cognitive skills if they take estrogen after GCS. Trans people in the D.C. area can take advantage of a database of healthcare providers. In the midst of the Brexit mess the British government is being petitioned to increase funding for gender clinics. Australian trans actress and advocate Georgie Stone has been cast as a transgender character on a soap opera. Dex Frier was hoping to be prom king but had to settle for being one of two “royal knights.” Denver, Colorado wrapped up its Denver Drag Days festivities with a record breaking drag brunch. The Week In Trans is here! What do we learn today? The 1982 film Tootsie has been turned into a Broadway play and it opens at the end of the month. The trans military ban is back on hold but don’t hold your breath. More court activity to come. The Canadian Armed Forces have issues new directives on how to treat trans troops. A trans activist from Honduras says a wall will not stop people from seeking refuge in the U.S. Republicans are reluctant to renew the Violence Against Women Act since it includes for the prisons to consider the safety of trans prisoners. A school district in Georgia has blocked a trans boy from running for prom king. Trans candidates are running in local Philadelphia elections. A study shows men who identify as cisgender but have sex with trans women have a higher-than-average HIV infection rate. And there’s lots of other news plus a few TWIT Awards. Robert, a boy who is shorter and slighter than other boys his age was caught trying on his sister’s clothes while investigating the things that made girl’s clothes so different. He was caught by his sister who didn’t recognize him and thought some other girl was in her room trying on her clothes. After she settled down she asked if he would like help with makeup and when Robert said yes she painted his face and fixed his hair in a feminine style. Then they were discovered by his mother who did not recognize him. When she did she asked if he would like to explore femininity more throughly. Then he was given the name Emily and his adventures really started.

All Just a Dream?

Amanda wasn’t fitting in in California. She had anxiety and depression almost every day. She missed the East Coast and her family. It was particularly hard during the holidays. At the urging of her online friends she decided to finally take another big step in her life and head back east. Now she is living in Baltimore, thinking about looking for a job and beginning to think that her life is just a dream. A bad dream, and she can’t wake up.
