Trans News Now 11/13/23
It’s good news for transgender candidates, as well as for Democrats who defend transgender rights when all the votes were counted. One right wing group spent $2,000,000 opposing the governor of Kentucky but Democrat Andy Bashear won re-election. The courts are staying busy with lawsuits over anti-trans laws and lawsuits against the lawsuits against anti-trans laws. The U.S. House of Representatives goes back to work but keeps writing funding bills filled with “poison pills” that would take away trans people’s rights if they passed. Gender confirmation surgeon Dr. Marci Bowers speaks out against anti-trans legislation. A gay man sues the gender clinic he went to because they approved him for HRT and gender-confirmation surgery. He says approving him is illegal because it’s “conversion therapy.” Transgender people living in rural communities in the U.S. are more likely to have undiagnosed conditions which could lead to heart issues. Hunter Schafer destroys the red carpet in an awe inspiring dress. The company that owns the Miss Universe pageant goes bankrupt. A public official comes out as a crossdresser in a southern town and the blowback causes him to take his own life. What’s on the menu at Dina’s Diner? A sexploitation actress from the ’70s who played a trans woman in an ’80s film makes a tasty appetizer. Looking at the salad section of the menu we find that homecoming attire for juniors is provocative. under entrees we find that some weight gain for an already busty lady TV presenter on the BBC causes a kerfuffle. The other entree is a perfect slice of the classic sexy redhead. For dessert the Diner offers the pantsless trend featuring leggy ladies with only dark hose covering their lower body. Patriarchy and Politics
Rabbah Rona Matlow believes that religious orthodoxy, Jewish and Christian, has corrupted biblical and other religious texts to defend the oppression of trans people. According to the Hebrew Bible and the rabbinic commentaries that follow it, sex and gender have ALWAYS been non-binary. Politicians use the cherry picked or corrupted text to make trans and nonbinary people into “the other” so they can stay in power. The lesson of the election on November 7 shows the people don’t support the right wing oppression of transgender people.

The U.S. Supreme Court considers a case brought by a licensed counselor who is a devout Christian who wants to use conversion therapy on consenting patients. A federal judge rules mothers of cisgender girls cannot join a lawsuit attempting to keep transgender females off of girls’ sports teams. Nine Republican governors sign a letter to the NCAA, urging they review and change their policy on transgender athletes in women’s sports. Gays Against Groomers calls for a huge rally to stop the “war on children” and 12 people show up. A study finds that puberty blockers may cause loss of bone density but once started on hormones bone density improves to normal levels. The contestant on Big Brother U.K. who came out as trans is voted off the show. A former patient who underwent conversion therapy urges Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to ban the practice. As transgender patients leave Texas and other states in search of gender-affirming medical care, the demand is so great that clinics in New Mexico are experiencing waiting lines. A trans sex worker sues Tennessee over a new law mandating that HIV-positive sex workers must register as “violent sex offenders.” Elliot Page says he was struggling just to do basic tasks before he came out. Britain’s Women’s and Equalities Minister tries to fudge the numbers to make it seem there are fewer trans people in that country. Trixie Mattel has a new reality show fixing up her house. Thursday of last week was Intersex Awareness Day. The Associated Students of Madison has declared the University of Wisconsin campus to be a sanctuary for transgender and non-binary people. TransWeek and The Pioneer Award
This past week Fantasia Fair was back on Cape Cod for its 40th year. Part of the events that take place in Provincetown during the Fair include a show put on by the attendees who are musically inclined, speechs, and awards presentations to people who have worked tirelessly for trans rights.
