The Week In Trans 9/20/21
First up it’s all the news you need! The Week In Trans! A transgender woman who is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter won a recent match and conservatives are pointing to her win as proof that trans women should not compete with cis women. Meanwhile a new report says there aren’t that many LGBTQ students participating in school sports. RuPaul’s Drag Race won an Emmy for outstanding competition program. The High Court in the U.K. has ruled that people under the age of 16 are capable of making a decision about starting puberty blockers. Utah’s Supreme Court ruled that trans people have a right to change the gender marker on their birth certificates. The state legislature is moving to pass a law denying trans people that right. A trans corrections officer won the right to use the ladies’ restroom at work and the state of Iowa is appealing. A trans man in Canada thought he was putting on weight during the pandemic lockdown but he actually had grown a giant tumor. Pose actor Mj Rodriguez looks forward to playing more than just transgender roles. There’s all that and a boatload more news in TWIT!

Chef Dina Amberle chooses only the finest, freshest ingredients to cook up the tastiest commentary. Today she takes some comments from crossdressers about why they do like they do, and adds in the Chinese government’s ban on girly men to create a delicious casserole that is sure to delight the most discerning intellectual palette. For dessert she composes a sweet treat about a male makeup influencer wearing a dead celeb’s dress. Then she sprinkles in Zoom meeting dysmorphia, and Hong Kong queens to provide a suitable finale for a repast that is only found at Dina’s Diner.

Rabbah Rona Matlow reminds us that “haters are gonna hate” and the only way to undermine their hate is with education. People who assault and murder trans people are sinning in the eyes of all religions. No matter that they often use their interpretation of their religion to justify ridding the world of “sinners”.

A federal court rules a Catholic school cannot fire a teacher because of their LGBTQ status. A study finds almost half of the LGBTQ people in the U.S. have experienced workplace discrimination. Most West Virginians believe trans athletes should compete based on their birth sex. Demi Lovato chases UFOs in a new series. A member of the conservative block in Britain’s Parliament advocates better medical care for trans people. The Lutheran Church installs its first transgender bishop. Texas failed to pass their bill banning trans school kids from athletics, but there’s already a rule in the state that prohibits it. A non-binary person wins bronze in the women’s 100 meter race at the Paralympics. Elliot Page jumps into the music industry with a new album. Hunter Schafer will appear in a horror flick titled Cuckoo. Full Frontal features a segment on trans women who run an alpaca ranch. Because of laws encouraging the hiring of trans people in India and Bangladesh some believe they are being hired due to their gender. China bans effeminate men from television. Tell Shelley Anne: David de Alba, The Cuban Legend
David de Alba was born and raised in Cuba until his family moved to Chicago in the mid 1960s. A hairdresser who noticed de Alba’s similarity in facial structure to the star Judy Garland made him up to look just like her. Soon David was doing shows at female impersonation clubs singing Garland’s songs, not lip syncing to a record. Read this interview with The Cuban Legend conducted by Shelley Anne Baker.

Trans women need to keep an eye on their prostate health. Tommy Dorfman appears in a new show in the U.K. Laverne Cox’s fans would like to see her be the host of Jeopardy. Two transgender women of color are teaching at Harvard Law School. Marsha P. Johnson gets a statue in New York City. A Fox News host calls transgender people “satanic”.
