It’s The Week In Trans! What do we learn today? Mattel creates a line of gender-neutral dolls. There is a Transgender March in Washington, D.C. Angelica Ross runs afoul of “Bernie Bros.” A trans man loses his bid to be listed as the father of his child since he gave birth. Suspects are arrested in two of the trans woman murders. A trans woman in Britain is Avon’s first trans Avon Lady. Ben Carson’s comments perceived to be anti-transgender stir up more press reports. There is a Drag Queen gamer group called Stream Queens. A trans man boxer is signed by Everlast to an endorsement deal. Fans of Mile High Comics monthly Drag for All Ages event have a unique way of blocking out protestors. Alexandra Billings joins the cast of Wicked on Broadway. Utah holds its first transgender pride event. We have all those stories and few TWIT Awards to hand out in TWIT!

The only constant in our universe is constant change. Sophie Lynne has moved to central Pennsylvania to attend graduate school at the Pennsylvania State University. Now she is near to her beloved Nittany Lion and attending classes with people much younger than her. Moving back after so many years away has shown her how the place has changed. The Old College Diner is gone. High rise apartment buildings have sprouted everywhere, and many of the businesses that were there 30 years ago are long gone. OZMA and/or My Lost Youth
Back in the late 1990s TGForum contributor Hebe Dotson wrote about a transgender plot twist in one of Frank L. Baum’s Oz books. The twist happens many chapters into The Marvelous Land of Oz. Some of the familiar characters are present and the action takes place after the Wizard has headed back to Kansas. Dorothy and Toto have also left Oz but the Tin Woodman and Scarecrow team up with a boy named Tip and a being Tip has accidentally created named Jack Pumpkinhead. Because his head is a pumpkin.

A Hate Crime Brings Out Love
Violence against trans women isn’t just something that happens somewhere else. It can happen anywhere. Claire Hall learned that recently when a newly transitioning woman used the restroom facility at a park in Oregon and was attacked by another woman’s husband. The assailant beat her severely just because she was in the lady’s restroom with his wife. But out of this horrible hate crime came a wave of love that may be helpful in stopping this kind of violence.

Time for all the transgender news we could find — It’s The Week In Trans! Today we learn that London holds its first ever Trans Pride parade. The state politician who wrote the bathroom bill in North Carolina is elected to congress. The attorney general of Indiana blocks gender changes on licenses that has been approved by their legislature. A group of trans Ohioans files a lawsuit for a statewide method of changing gender on IDs. The state of New Jersey agrees to transfer a trans prisoner to a women’s prison but the guards union says “Hold it.” Secretary of State Mike Pomeo implies in a speech that some rights are not valid. Bee Love Slater is the latest victim of murder. Want to know if a business is trans friendly? There’s an app for that. A trans barista tosses a conservative customer out of the coffee shop and loses her job. Trans people who have had to experience conversion therapy are more likely to commit suicide. Linda and her friend Fiona were two of many t-girls who were disappointed when Craig’s List closed down their Personals section cutting them off from access to a broad and deep ‘dating pool.’ They both agreed it had left a vacuum in their lives. However it seems Fiona has found a ‘work around’ and last we heard she was on her way to Montreal, Canada to give it a try.

Quiet Night in Charm City
Join Abbey the Cabbie on the mean streets of Charm City. She’s a lady cab driver behind the wheel of her Road King hack. All night she makes the rounds and picks up fares to make some cash. She’d like to give up driving and concentrate on her first love, detective work. She knows she has what it takes to be a good gumshoe but it just don’t seem that she’s gonna get a break. It’s a man’s world. So around the town she goes. Every night out on the streets in her cab. It might drive some people to drink but not Abbey. No. No drinking and driving. That’s rule one.

First she runs over some history about where transgender health advocacy began. Turns out it was at the kitchen table of trans activism pioneer Louise Lawrence. That’s silly of course but despite the many labels we’ve had for the transgender community all of us knew, some very early and some much later, that we needed something more than living every day in the gender assigned by our birth genitals. Retro Rerun: Choosing Your Hair
Our Retro Rerun how-to article is from the TGF Archives of September 1997. The late Roberta Angela Dee, whose advice is like wisdom of the ancients, wrote about the importance of good hair. Some crossdressers keep a ratty old wig in the trunk of their car and plop it on at the hotel were they prepared for a night out. They don’t seem to notice that it bears little resemblance to a cared for coiffure. Take Roberta’s advice on hair piece selection and you will look more authentic when you’re out and about. Consign that ratty old wig to the dumpster.
