We all, or most of us, look forward to going to some event at which we can really, as they used to say in the good old days, “put on the dog.” Why they said that we’ll never know but they said it and it meant to get glammed up and dress in high fashion for a formal occasion. Today she whips up some frothy confections and delicious desserts with nothing more than a few news items and her particular brand of spice. She takes a Muslim trans/drag performer, an attorney who represents female victims of sexual assault while wearing six inch spike heels, adds in Japanese women who marry themselves, sprinkles it all with an appreciation of gingers, then serves it with a light blend of impressions from a corsetry convention. Prepare to be entertained and satisfied with the fare at Dina’s Diner.

It’s the trans in entertainment column you know you need — TransTainment! Today we feature Brazilian drag performer Pabllo Vittar. She’s gorgeous, is blowing up with pop music hits worldwide and is a trans activist speaking out against violence toward LGBT people. Gigi Gorgeous introduces a makeup line for “everyone.” Courtney Act shows a lot of leg. German born Kim Petras is also an international pop star who wants to be known for her music, not her gender status. All that and more, it’s our motto here at TransTainment, and we mean it!

Elections Matter for The Trans Community
A clear eyed look at the current political climate in the United States shows that the conservative party is firmly opposed to equal rights for transgender people. While not all of the Democrats are completely cool with the existence of people with trans or other identities, the party has supported the rights of transgender people to exist. Republican controlled legislatures have done nothing to support transgender people. They have gone in the opposite direction. Today Claire Hall outlines why it is in the best interest of transgender voters to choose the party that supports us if we are ever to make progress.

The Cedar Chests, Chapter 1
Today we bring you first chapter of a new story by Emily author Ashli Kleier. It’s called The Cedar Chests, set in a rural area where a mysterious farm house is found by the son of the farmer who owns the land. No one recalls that much about who lived there and how long it’s been abandoned. The patriarch of the family sells the house to his son so the young man can have a place of his own. While exploring the building the son finds several cedar chests filled with women’s clothes.

It’s fall in the northern hemisphere and that means rain. Everything from lingering showers to heavy downpours will occur in many areas. That makes it tough for those of us who enjoy dainty, feminine footwear. From the every popular ballet flat to kicky kitten heel pumps we are often challenged in our fashion choices, and in the worst weather some of us must resort to carrying our preferred footware in a plastic bag while we trudge through the rain in rubber boots. But Sabrina Symington has another tactic to deal with those shoe destroying puddles.
Julie’s First Time Out — May 2017
Today our newest contributor Julie Slowinski writes about her first time out. It happened on a business trip that coincided with the LGBT friendly event, the Seattle International Film Festival. How could she not attend in her feminine finest? She brought enough clothes to provide outfits for every night, and she visited a thrift shop after she arrived, just to make sure had choices. She had everything planned but as so often happens, there were glitches. It all has a happy ending though so don’t be afraid to read about Julie’s first nights out.
Trans Influenced Rock: The 1980s, 1990s, and Beyond…
Last month we reached into the TGForum Archives and brought back part two of Aleisha Michelle Emerson’s series on transgender influenced rock. The articles were originally published in the late 1990s and in the first two she covered the 1950s and ’60s, and the Glam Rock trend of the ’70s. Today we pull out number three in the series and bring you her article on the gender bending that went on in the music world during the 1980s and ’90s. While none of the bands and musicians in the article have not declared themselves trans they were willing to bend gender norms to help them stand out in the crowd.
