Boystown in Chicago is one of the most country’s inclusive LGBTQ+ communities and the oldest officially recognized gay neighborhood in the country. It’s known for its welcoming vibe, nonstop nightlife, LGBTQ-owned businesses, and excellent dining options. Covid-19 put a damper on that nightlife and Julie Slowinski, a normally enthusiastic patron of the area’s offerings, was reluctant to return to her usual haunts over concerns about the lack of social distancing. Last weekend she decided it was time and returned to Boystown. Triumphantly.
Sophie and her roommate Linda took a trip to Michigan. After they arrived in her roommate’s hometown they stopped in at a local restaurant that her roommate remembered as a decent place to get a meal. They had not reckoned on having to deal with a member of the waitstaff who refused to serve them. Was it because Sophie and Linda are trans? And was the food as good as Linda remembered?
COVID-19 regulations made it hard for Julie to have any fun in the Windy City last year. The rule banning indoor dining at restaurants was particularly hard on her and her friends as an evening out after a day of shopping was most often a test of how well the ladies tolerated the cold. The new year offered an improvement in the COVID numbers so Julie and a friend planned a girls night out, that started with Julie running some errands, the a visit to the art museum before dinner and drinks. In 2017 a newbie to the world of crossdressing had six crossdressed forays in a short period of time. That newbie was our Julie Slowinski and today she documents that whirlwind of dressing up and offers some advice based on her experience progressing from newbie to fashionable crossdresser about town.
Julie and a couple of her friends decided to stage a Faux New Year’s Eve party the Monday before the actual event. Of course there were preparations to be made, some shopping in the afternoon, looking at new glasses and picking the restaurant for dinner, the spot for after dinner drinks and then the addition of one more place for one more drink. On June 14 in Chicago there was a protest march called Drag March. It brought together drag queens, kings, and everything in between as they lead a peaceful (non-violent) protest march in support of Black Lives Matter. One of those attending the march and showing her support for the cause was our crossdresser correspondent from Chicago, Miss Julie Slowinski.
Pauline Estelle and her wife traveled to Mexico to vacation at a membership resort. Their vacation was all wonderful but it provided a respite from the weather in the Great White North. After sorting out room availability problems with management they were able to get in some time relaxing around the pool and other such vacation activities. A few weeks ago Lynda Martini got a message from someone on Facebook proposing that they get together when this out-of-town girl was in Philly for a conference. Lynda thought “What’s this?” but after corresponding with this lady from Chicago she agreed to go out on the town with her. It turns out the out-of-towner had done her research and found several places outside the usual gayborhood haunts were two ladies could have some fun.
