The show Pose will finish with its third season in June. Michelle Obama praises Zaya Wade. A former YouTuber comes out a trans. House Democrats introduce a resolution to honor participants who were in the Stonewall Riots. Lots of news about the politicization of transgender issues, including bans on trans girls in school sports and medical treatment for trans teens. Last year set a record in murders of trans people and this year is on track to beat that. A trans woman prisoner in a men’s prison is stuck with a rapist cell mate. In the 1960s a trans woman in the U.K. was given electro shock therapy to cure her gender issues. A Malaysian trans woman business tycoon disappears after a video shows her renouncing Islam. During the pandemic many people are coming up with new recipes for all sorts of culinary delights. Not so down at Dina’s Diner. There you can always get the comfort food you crave. First Julie Day of 2021
COVID-19 regulations made it hard for Julie to have any fun in the Windy City last year. The rule banning indoor dining at restaurants was particularly hard on her and her friends as an evening out after a day of shopping was most often a test of how well the ladies tolerated the cold. The new year offered an improvement in the COVID numbers so Julie and a friend planned a girls night out, that started with Julie running some errands, the a visit to the art museum before dinner and drinks. Drag in Cinema
Today Drag in Cinema looks at three films featuring male actors in drag. Coming to America with Arsenio Hall dressed as a woman in a nightclub scene playing opposite his male self, Peter O’Toole as a drunken lord in full farthingale in Rebecca’s Daughters, and Christopher Lee in the 1972 horror flick The Wicker Man. Lee is the high priestess (priest?) of a pagan cult.
A Trans-Generational Transgender Story
A few years ago Linda told the story of a friend who after being widowed moved to Florida to live as a woman full time. Mary only wore male attire if any of her relatives came to visit. One such visitor was a grandson who told Mary he had an attraction to wearing women’s clothes. That tale ended satisfactorily but after a long period Mary has contacted Linda to tell a new story and seek some advice. The story starts now. The advice can wait.

A bill now in congress bans gender discrimination in jury selection. Plenty of bills to keep trans girls out of school sports are on the way. Other suppression of trans rights by state legislatures continues. As does violence against trans women. Gavin Grimm’s old school is still fighting against accommodations for trans students and taking the case to the Supreme Court. Laverne Cox has a new guy in her life. Munroe Bergdorf quits Twitter cause it’s so mean. The U.K. receives a low grade on its treatment of transgender people. A nonbinary person in Worcester, Mass. runs for city council. Many members of the crossdressing community are heterosexual and feel that their crossdressing nature will not allow them to have a completely honest relationship with a woman. Tell Shelley Anne: Interview with Dr. Aaron Devor
Dr. Aaron Devor, PhD, FSSSS, FSTLHE, has been studying and teaching about transgender topics since the early 1980s. He established and holds the world’s first Chair in Transgender Studies; initiated and hosts the international, interdisciplinary Moving Trans History Forward conferences, started the Transgender Archives at the University of Victoria and is the subject of today’s Tell Shelley Anne interview.

The junta ruling Myanmar is getting resistance led by drag queens. A trans woman is a promising candidate in El Salvador’s upcoming election.
