Thinking as a Woman
A new contributor joins TGForum today. Her name is Brielle and she is at the beginning of transition. In her first four blogs she will tell you about how she came to the point in her life when she had to begin that transition. She has lived through a lot and shares all the details of her story, holding nothing back. Today she starts at the beginning and covers childhood through her teen years.

Sophie is concerned that her generation of trans people has not succeeded in clearing the way for the younger generations of trans people. Progress was being made and recognition and respect was being earned and then a change of administration shifted the federal stance on transgender right from positive to negative. Sophie writes about two encounters she had while at work that demonstrate the success of the work that has been done and the need for continued work.
Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund Freedom Awards
On June 8 The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund held their 2017 Freedom Awards in New York City. Awards were presented to people and organizations who made a contribution to TLDEF’s mission. The military is supposed to have a plan for inclusion of trans soldiers. They are not double timing it to get that done. Grayson Perry, transvestite artist, wants to dance. Sense8 has been cancelled. Dina’s Diner 6/5/17
Time to head on over to Dina’s Diner for some tasty treats. Dina has cooked up some specials for today and she’s waiting for you to slide into a booth, order a cup of coffee and settle in. First item on the menu is the increase in trans surgeries. Dina tells us it has gone up 20% in two years. Then she has a light, fluffy item about a middle-aged trans woman who is a “Lolita.” The frillier the better for this girl. Then she turns to a tasty item about a mysterious Playboy centerfold whose breast defied physics. Time for Trans People to Stand Up and Show Up
June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month and there will be several events around the country that focus on trans people. Our political correspondent Babs Casbar Siperstein has good advice when she says it’s time to stand up and show up. Most of the legislators who are busy passing restroom bills have never met a trans person. That makes June the perfect time to get out there, be seen, and if possible meet the legislators. Babs has some info on some events at the national and state level.

The Week In Trans 5/22/17
It’s time for The Week In Trans! Today we learn that a neo-Nazi group attacked a trans cartoonist’s Facebook page. A trans woman is approved to file a lawsuit under the Americans With Disabilities Act. A contestant on The Bachelorette is in hot water for a transphobic remark. Masculine Chinese girls have formed a “boy” band. Changes may be in store to update Britain’s Gender Recognition Act. A school in London will allow boys to wear skirts. If they have the legs for it, why not? Chelsea Manning is a free woman and we finally have an updated photo of her. Many are wondering if the deadline for including trans troops in the military will be honored. There are changes to laws concerning gender in several place. How are the Non-Transsexual Transgender People Faring?
A non-transsexual transgender person is someone who leads a double life, presenting as their birth gender for much of the time but expressing their “secret” gender whenever they can. Statistics tell us that there are at least 10 times more non-transsexual transgender people (non-TS TG) than transsexuals so today Dana Bevan talks about the issues faced by the non-TS TG and discusses ways to offer support that addresses those issues.
Early Days: Stepping Out En Femme
Kim’s Adventure Time today focuses on when she had just decided that she needed to do more than dress up in the privacy of her own home. She needed to get out into the wide world. But not too much of the wide world. While she took small steps to begin with, going out very, very early in the morning to limit the number of people she might meet, she always wore high heels.
