The Ugly Duchess, by Flemish Renaissance artist Quinten Massys is determined to be of a man in drag. An ugly man. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signs into law the state’s extension of anti-discrimination legislation, which protects against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. New Mexico has also passed legislation amending its anti-discrimination law. Suspects have been arrested in several recent trans victim murder cases. Florida, Georgia, and West Virginia are banning or preparing to ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors. President Biden called the anti-transgender legislation in Florida “close to sinful”. Meanwhile legislators in Iowa and Arkansas have imposed bans on trans students using the school’s restroom and locker room facilities matching their gender identity. Texas wants people whose children are exposed to a drag show to be able to sue the performers. The trans woman who appeared in a Hersey’s ad for International Women’s Day became the target of transphobic hate. The Kum & Go chain of gas stations with convenience stores tweeted their support of trans rights.
