A trans woman candidate for the Ohio legislature is disqualified because she failed to put her dead name on her nominating petition. Another trans woman challenges an incumbent Republican representative for her seat. Conservative legislatures have already filed or pre-filed 125 anti-transgender bills. A bill in Florida would require proof of “biological sex” before citizens could get a driver’s license or state ID card. Last week Governor Mike DeWine won praise from the trans community for vetoing an anti-trans bill. This week we take back our approval since DeWine has issued an executive order banning gender-affirming surgery for minors. A trans woman was arrested for DUI in 2021 and given a urine test. The results came back after four months and in that time the woman was fired from two jobs. The test results showed no sign of drugs or alcohol. Guess who is suing the city. Starting on January 1 major retailers in California must have a gender-neutral toy section. Texas Drag queen Brigitte Bandit gets a special gift from Dolly Parton. Boxing USA has a new guideline that requires transgender women to submit proof they have had gender reassignment surgery. Dave Chappelle keeps punching down on trans people but his Netflix specials aren’t making any money for the streamer. Yosha Iglesias will be the first transgender woman to earn the title of “women international master” if she is confirmed by The International Chess Federation. Happy New Year! Ohio Governor Mike DeWhine vetoes the legislature’s anti-trans bill. A district judge for Idaho issues an injunction stopping the state’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors from taking effect. A judge in Alabama denies a request for an injunction which would prevent that state’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors from going into effect. In Florida, a Republican lawmaker introduces a bill to prohibit pride flags being flown or displayed on government property. The first openly transgender officer to serve in the British Armed Forces gets an MBE. Dave Chappelle just can’t keep anti transgender slurs out of his act. Tommy Dorfman is misgendered on a plane and is very angry about it. The Williams Institute finds that 13.9 million adults in the U.S. identify as LGBTQ—5.5% of the population. A new study by researchers from Johns Hopkins shows the regret rate among those who received gender-confirming surgery is less than 1%. The DOJ sues Florida for violating the Affordable Care Act. Transgender women finish first and second in the Illinois State Cyclocross Championships. Montana passes a law declaring that sex is binary. Dr. Jeanne Hoff, the first openly trans psychiatrist to treat transgender patients, passes away. Trace Lysette receives a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award for her performance in Monica. Hunter Schafer to appear in a new horror video game called OD. What’s new today? The lawsuit Zooey Zephyr filed over the Montana House of Representatives silencing her is dismissed. Twenty-one state attorneys general support trans students use of the restroom that corresponds to their gender identity. On the other hand, 18 state A.G.s oppose the Biden administration policy that places foster children with families that respect the child’s gender identity or sexual orientation. A trans girl student showered with her classmates in the girl’s locker room and four girls file a sexual harassment claim. A Florida high school principal is reassigned, along with his staff, because they let a transgender girl join the girl’s volleyball team. Senator Ted Cruz is one of the sponsors of a bill that would forbid federal agencies from punishing those who refuse to use a person’s correct name or pronouns. Doctor Who introduces trans actor Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble in the first of three specials celebrating the show’s 60th anniversary. A trans man moves to Canada to escape anti trans laws in Arizona only to find there are anti trans knuckleheads up north, too. Things are getting even more scary for transgender people in Russia. Nepal is the first country in Southeast Asia to legally recognize a same-sex marriage. Some middle-school students take to X to voice their displeasure with Moms 4 Liberty. In 1995 an American manga artist named Will Allison created a manga comic titled Pervert Club. It’s the story of a male high school student who comes out to the whole school as a crossdresser. As an open crossdresser he is invited to join the Pervert Club, a small group of queer fellow students. Dov Sherman, the TGF contributor who wrote about manga and other things back in the ’90s reviewed Pervert Club in 1997. Today we pull her review out of the darkest depths of the TGF Archives.
