Twit Awards for the Week 2/19/24
North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson has a long record of speaking out against transgender rights. This week, in defending the idea of a law against trans people in the restroom, he said that transgender people should, “find a corner outside somewhere.” For an astonishing lack of sensitivity, and for failing to see the connections to segregation, North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson gets a Twit Award. He shares that Twit Award with all of the people who cheer on his comments. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
This week, there was a shooting at a Houstons megachurch. The shooter was cisgender, but sure enough, many conservative pundits kept repeating the lie that the shooter was transgender. For rushing to blame transgender people for something bad that a cisgender person did, all of the people who spread the statement that she is transgender share a Twit Award. Donald Trump Jr. posted to social media something which he called “Michelle Obama’s rookie card.” The post seems to play on the idea that Michelle Obama is trans, and contains the caption, “Deer [sic] fact checker I’m told that this is a joke, so please treat it accordingly though I personally am not 100% sure. Now, we feel certain that the part about being in the NFL is indeed a joke, but since such conservative pundits as Matt Walsh, DeAnna Loraine, and Alex Jones have been known to use the “joke” of Michelle Obama being trans as a way to attack her. If this is indeed another round of “Michelle Obama is trans,” then Donald Trump Jr. gets a Twit Award. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
Aaron Rodgers appeared as a guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast, and the two got around to talking about transgender people. Rogers said, “I don’t see why they’re so hell-bent on going after kids. There’s huge money in it.” Rogan added, “I think it’s the money, and it’s also waving the flag of woke.” First off, there is no big source of money in being trans. Secondly, “woke” is simply empathy for others. From there, they went into the idea that being trans is participating in a cult, and the idea that children are getting gender-related surgery. For being detached from reality, Aaron Rodgers and Joe Rogan get a Twit Award. This story comes from The Advocate.
Robby and Landon Starbuck have made a so-called documentary film, which purports to show that transgender people are “sexualizing” and “grooming” children. They tricked drag queen Veronika Electronika into appearing in the film, then heavily edited her, to make it seem that she was admitting to what they were saying. For deception upon deception, Robby and Landon Starbuck get a Twit Award. Rolling Stone has this story.
In Georgia, SB 88 restricts schools teaching LGBTQ+ matters. In debate, Gays Against Groomers, Log Cabin Republicans, and other proponents of the bill were allowed to speak, but opponents of the bill were not allowed to speak.
