Jesse Signal again made wild claims about gender-affirming care in a New York Times column. The latest column in question is, “Medical Associations Trusted Belief Over Science On Transgender Youth.” We mentioned in the news how he saw the American Psychological Association weakening its support for gender-affirming care, when in fact the organization has not weakened its support at all. Erin Reed has a fact check on the claims made in the column at Erin In The Morning. For continuing to make misleading claims about transgender people, Jesse Signal gets a TWIT.
Illinois Representative Mary Miller, a Congresswoman with a long history of anti-transgender bias, has proposed a law which would ban “nude” strippers from performing before children in schools. When pressed, she could not provide a single instance of such a thing ever happening. PinkNews thinks that the real point of the proposed legislation is to ban any discussion of transgender people, and while it is a stretch to get from the written bill to banning discussion of transgender people, that makes more sense than other explanations. For proposing a solution for which there is no known problem, and for proposing such an odd way to ban discussion of transgender people, Representative Mary Miller gets a TWIT.
When FBI Director Kash Patel’s girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, was asked about her boyfriend spending taxpayer money to jet to the Winter Olympics to party with the U.S. ice hockey team, she quickly changed the subject. Unfortunately, what she said was, “I think we should probably be more concerned with the fact that, you know, the Democrats were trying to spend millions of dollars to see if mice can be transgender.” The claim is so outrageous that there are competing theories about what it actually refers to–scientific experiments to test the safety of hormone replacement therapy, or some sort of transgenetic mice. For bringing up a long-since debunked idea which only serves to demean others, and for never actually tying the idea to the incident in question but merely bringing it up like a logical falacy, Alexis Wilkins gets a TWIT. U.S. Representative Bob Onder, a Republican from Missouri, has introduced a bill which, if passed, would make it easier for detransitioners to sue doctors and other medical personnel who provide gender-affirming care for “emotional distress, pain and suffering” caused by transition. If transition caused that sort of pain, it would be easy enough to sue providers without additional legislation. Additionally, if the patient is getting the gender-affirming care, it is because the patient asked for gender-affirming care. So, the patient is suing the doctor for giving the care that the patient asked for. For promoting a bill which would clog up the legal system with law suits over acts for which the litigant bears a huge share of the responsibility, Representative Bob Onder gets a TWIT. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is trying to take a victory lap over the fact that Scouting America has said that it will do many of the things he wants, including getting rid of programs which promote diversity , equality, and inclusion, and making transgender scouts feel unwelcome in the organization. For thinking of diversity, equality, and inclusion as a bad thing, and for trying to make transgender people feel unwelcome, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth gets a TWIT.
