As we mentioned in the news, the New York Times released a podcast about transgender health care, hosted by Azeen Ghorayshi, who has a history of anti-transgender misinformation. The podcast begins with a look at regret for gender-affirming care, when in fact, fewer than 1% of those who begin a medical transition later regret it. They follow that up with citing the Cass Report as authoritative, while ignoring the experiences of health-care professionals who treat transgender patients, who say that the Cass report does not reflect the experiences of their practices. For continuing to give a platform to anti-transgender voices, and for not providing balance, the New York Times gets another TWIT. GLAAD has this story.
The Trump administration said that it would not close Dupont Circle Park during WorldPride, but it did did close Dupont Circle Park. The area has a deep history with the local LGBTQ community, as The Advocate points out. For showing its disrespect for LGBTQ people, the Trump administration gets another TWIT.??
Representative Buddy Carter is a candidate for U.S. Senate from Georgia. He already has an ad with a transphobic theme, featuring an apparent transgender woman with facial hair and a deep voice. He seems proud of the ad, despite the fact that it keeps using anti-transgender cliches, such as trophies in the background, suggesting that the trans person transitioned in ordered to win at sports. LGBTQ Nation has more about this ad. For focusing on a fringe issue while ignoring such important topics as the economy, Representative Buddy Carter gets a TWIT.??
The Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that it sent a letter to doctors, in which Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told doctors to listen to him rather than the many studies which show that gender-affirming care for minors produces good results with few side effects. For recommending against evidence-based medicine, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gets a TWIT. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
Representative Mary Miller introduced a resolution to declare June as “Family Month.” It is rather obvious that this is an attempt to rebrand June as anything other than Pride Month. For the attempt to depict “family” as being opposed to LGBTQ members, despite many families accepting their LGBTQ members, and for the obvious attempt to shove LGBTQ people back into a place of hiding, Representative Mary Miller gets a TWIT. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.??
As we mentioned in the news, President Trump has not recognized Pride Month, but the Department of Education has declared June to be “Title IX Month.” Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Education has interpreted Title IX to only refer to “biological sex,” i.e., the gender assigned at birth. For attempting to divert from recognition of LGBTQ people and replace that with an obvious attempt to promote their policy of recognizing only two genders and those being the sex assigned at birth, President Trump’s Department of Education gets a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.
