Republicans who support the SAVE America Act are pointing out that Olive Garden requires photo ID to access its “never ending pasta pass.” Yes, since the pass is only for one person, they do indeed check the person’s ID. However, they accept a standard driver’s license; they do not require a passport or a birth certificate with the same name. For failing to note this difference and for failing to note that transgender people and married women often take a name other than the one found on their birth certificates those making the comparison to the “never-ending pasta pass” get a TWIT. A coffee shop in Spokane, Washington, got into trouble this week for message on its sign, saying, “Transgender women are r* men.” (The missing word refers to people with intellectual disabilities, and is no longer used much.) For equating being transgender with intellectual disabilities with no scientific proof, and for spreading prejudicial sentiments in general, the coffee shop with the sign gets a TWIT. Nancy Mace recently held up a picture of RuPaul at a congressional hearing, and complained the same picture is found in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. She asked rhetorically, “Do you know how many kids get raped by adults every year? This kind of thing, when you are dressing men up as women, drag queens, you’re putting this kind of c*** in front of kids, sexualizes them and makes them more vulnerable to people that want to rape them or abuse them.” She presented no statistical evidence of a connection between drag queens and sexual abuse of children. For making a statement without statistical proof connecting the things she is talking about, Representative Nancy Mace gets a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.
President Trump has spent a good bit of time complaining about the CHIPS Act, without showing that he has a good understanding of what the act is about. At a recent event in Pennsylvania, he said, “Of course, the standards were so high. If you weren’t transgender, you didn’t qualify.” The act was about transistors, not trans sisters. For failing to understand what he is criticizing, President Trump gets a TWIT. (And, in the event that he claims that this was just his attempt at a joke, he still gets the TWIT, this time for being such an awful person that we can’t tell a joke from a statement dripping with animus.)
