Elon Musk has said that he will file for “full custody” of his 1-year-old son, Romulus, because the mother of that son, Ashley St. Clair, said in a podcast that she feels “immense guilt for my role” in causing “my son’s sister more pain.” That sister is Vivian Jenna Wilson, the estranged transgender daughter of Elon Musk. For attempting to use the legal system to punish his former girlfriend for not sufficiently mistreating his child with another woman, Elon Musk gets a TWIT. This story comes from Them.
In Utah, a bill would replace the word “gender” with the word “sex” in several laws already on the books, require school districts to keep transgender employees out of jobs which interact with children, require courts to view the refusal to accept a child’s gender identity as a factor in that parent’s favour when awarding custody in a divorce case, and allow the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue personalized license plates that disparage transgender people. For attempting to do so much harm to an already marginalized community, state Representative Trevor Lee, the bill’s sponsor, gets a TWIT. The Utah News Dispatch has this story.
The University of Arkansas has withdrawn a job offer it made to Emily Suski, who was offered the position as dean of the university’s law school, because they discovered that she signed onto a friend-of-the-court brief in support of transgender athletes. For withdrawing a job offer simply because the applicant opposes taking away rights from transgender people, the University of Arkansas gets a TWIT. This story comes from The Advocate.
Last November, the voters of Virginia elected Abigail Spanberger as their governor, and Democrats to the state legislature. This past week, the King George County School Board unanimously adopted Policy JBB, a very anti-transgender bit of legislation. It requires teachers to use a student’s legal name and sex as recorded on the original birth certificate. For pushing extra hard in a direction in which the majority feel that the Republicans have gone farther than necessary, the King George County School Board gets a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.
During a brief absence by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson, Representative Andrew Clyde of Georgia assumed the title of Speaker Pro Temporary. He deliberately misgendered Representative Sarah McBride, calling her the “gentleman” from Delaware. In her remarks, Representative McBride paid respect to a military chaplain, a daughter who lost her battle with ovarian cancer, and a small business owner, all of whom were caught in the crossfire of the misgendering. For disrespecting not only a fellow member of the chamber but also those whom that member was trying to honour, Representative Andrew Glyde gets a TWIT. This story comes from The Advocate.
