As we mentioned in the news, the trump administration is going to investigate schools who teach “the pernicious effects of gender ideology in school programs and activities.” They announced a special investigative unit dedicated to looking into complaints that schools are permitting transgender students to participate on girls’ and women’s sports teams, and perhaps otherwise recognize the gender identities of transgender students. For creating a special team to investigate and punish schools that allow transgender athletes, at a time when they are cutting back on workers in other areas of the government, the Trump administration gets a TWIT. This story comes from The Advocate.
As we also mentioned in the news, the state of Florida has changed genders listed on drivers’ licenses to reflect the driver’s lived gender, replacing it with the gender assigned at birth. The primary purpose of a driver’s license is to regulate who may drive, and the secondary purpose is to identify who this refers to. While lived gender does not get so specific, covering roughy half of humans (or it can be even more general, if the gender specified is an “X”), at least it has some potential to tell identifying information about the person to whom the license is issued. Gender assigned at birth does nothing to help identify the person who is permitted to drive. For including information on driver’s licenses which fails to serve the purpose of identifying the person but merely punishes those who dare to transition genders, the state of Florida gets a TWIT. WLRN public radio has this story.
