A second appeals court has refused to lift a temporary injunction against implementing President Trump’s ban on transgender people in the military. Like the first appeals court to so rule, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel rued that they would let the district court handle the case, but that they might allow the implementation of the case at some future point in time. A judge in Montana has blocked a law which would require transgender people to use the restroom which is designated for their “biological sex.” The judge found that the law was driven by animus and that the state had failed to provide evidence that the law achieved its goal of “protecting women.” The judge writes, “Decisions about how to express a person’s gender identity are personal and private, as is information about a person’s transgender or intersex status, anatomy, genetics, and medical history.” This story comes from Erin Reed.
Although Donald Trump won a rather narrow victory in Wisconsin last year, on Tuesday, voters selected Susan Crawford to replace a retiring state Supreme Court justice. Elon Musk spent several million dollars on ads had an anti-transgender theme, according to Them.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has stopped some payments to Maine schools, in realiation for the state’s refusal to adopt a policy which would ban transgender athletes from participating on girls’ teams in school sports. This story comes from Reuters.
When transgender people in Florida get their driver’s licenses renewed, they are getting a surprise. The Florida Department of Highway Safety has started to change the gender markers on drivers’ licenses so that they reflect the driver’s “birth sex.” WLRN has this story.

Marcy Rheintgen, a college student, has been arrested for using the ladies’ room at the Florida state capitol. This violates Florida’s restroom law, which restricts transgender people’s restroom use. The Associated Press has this story.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wants officials from the Dallas Independent School District to answer questions under oath about transgender student athletes on girls’ teams. Some Democratic members of Congress signed a letter to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins, stating their opposition to his cut to gender-affirming medical care for veterans. This story can be found at The Advocate.
Families with transgender children in Illinois are asking the state’s Attorney General to investigate two major hospitals in Chicago which stopped their programs for transgender children. The families charge that the hospitals are violating the state law which bans discrimination on the basis of gender identity. WBEZ public radio has this story.
Democrats walked out as the Georgia House of Representatives voted on a bill to house prisoners in the state according to their sex at birth. The vote came on the last day of the 2025 session, as the Democrats argued that there are more important issues with the legislature is not taking up. Georgia Recorder has this story.

World Athletics plans to make all female track and field athletes submit to DNA testing, using either a cheek swab or a blood test. This move comes despite the fact that such testing was discontinued becuase several women, who never suspected they were anything but female, were found not to have the typical XX chromosomes. USA Fencing disqualified a competitor who refused to fence against a transgender woman. USA Fencing rejected the appeal by Stephanie Turner, who felt that the policy which allows transgender women to fence as women was overruled by President Trump’s executive order forbidding transgender women in women’s and girls’ sports. President Trump has directed the National Institutes of Health to study “regret” among transgender people who transition. There are already several such studies, but apparently President Trump thinks that those studies underestimate regret. This story comes from Nature.

This week, Carrie Coon revealed that her character in The White Lotus was supposed to have a child who used they/them pronouns, indicating that the child is either non-binary or transgender. The dialogue about her child’s gender was cut after the election in November. On Monday, to mark Transgender Day of Visibility, U.S. Represnetative Becca Baliant introduced the Transgneder Health Care Access Act of 2025. It expands access to gender-affirming medical care, especially in rural areas. It would also expand the amount of exposure medical studnets have to gender-affirming medical care.
