A federal judge has blocked the Department of Justice’s request to seek medical records of transgender patients at Boston Children’s Hospital. The judge feels that the subpoena is too broad. The real purpose of the subpoenas, according to the ruling, is “to interfere with Massachusetts’ right to protect gender-affirming care within its borders, to intimidate the hospital to stop providing such care and to dissuade patients from seeking it.” Reuters has this story.

In an article for The Conversation, a law school professor who specializes in health care law discusses how the subpoenas by the Department of Justice violate HIPPA laws.

This week, political writer Charlie Kirk was shot to death in Utah. He was answering a question about transgender people involved in mass shootings when he was shot. KOMO News finds it interesting that he was talking about transgender people when he was shot, ignoring how he often spoke against the rights of transgender people.

The day after Charlie Kirk was killed, a memo from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said that shell casings found after the shooting had “transgender and anti-fascist ideology,” without specifying what was on the casings. It turns out that there was no specific transgender writing on the casings, which contained both anti-fascist and anti-leftist slogans. An article in Slate suggests that anti-transgender backlash is coming from the Charlie Kirk shooting.

U.S. Representatives Nancy Mace and Sarah Jacobs had words this week, when Representative Jacobs pointed out that “boob jobs” are a form of gender-affirming care. She is correct–many cisgender people find it quite all right for them to get themselves gender-affirming care, even surgery, but wish to deny the same surgery to transgender people. The Advocate has this story.
