Last week, we reported that Judge Ana Reyes of the U.S. District for Washington, D.C., had issued an injunction blocking the Trump administration enacting its ban on transgender people in the military. This week, Judge Benjamin Settle in Seattle and Judge Christine O’Hearn of New Jersey also issued rulings which forbid the military from dismissing transgender people. The ruling from Judge O’Hearn is limited to the two particular members of the armed services who are plaintiffs in this suit, according to The Advocate.

Judge Settle, on the other hand, issued a broader ruling, one which applies to any member of the armed services who is about to be discharged under this executive order. Politico has this story.

Meanwhile, Judge Ana Reyes held an emergency hearing, in which the government asked to implement the executive order immediately. She pointed out that the military still has not been able to tell her exactly how many people would be affected by this ban. She rejected the request to reinstate the ban. This story comes from The Advocate .

The matter now goes to an appeals court, which has said that it will not block the ban “for now,” but said that it would reconsider the matter if the military takes action against any transgender service members. Reuters has this story.

In his first term, President Trump tried to do away with the Affordable Care Act. In his current term, his administration has proposed a new rule prohibiting insurance plans from classifying gender-affirming care as an essential health benefit. This is the first step in forbidding insurance companies from covering gender-affirming care, according to an article in Them.

The Department of Government Efficiency has never said why they need access to electronic data from the Social Security Administration, nor have they said what they plan to do with that data. Among the things which Rolling Stone speculates that they could do with the data is to create a database of transgender people. (Technically, they couldn’t be sure that they got all transgender people, but they could determine everyone who changed a gender marker at Social Security, or everyone who has received a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, or everyone who received a prescription for gender-affirming care.)

Kentucky passed a law overturning the ban on conversion therapy. The ban came from an executive order by Governor Andy Beshear. Kentucky legislators also passed a ban on using public funds to pay for gender-affirming care for prisoners, and another bill which restricts adults from accessing gender-affirming care. This story comes from Them.
