A Kansas state court has refused a request to issue a temporary restraining order forbidding the state from enforcing the law invalidating the driver’s licenses of transgender residents. The American Civil Liberties Union has more in their press release.

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is preparing invalidate the identity documents of transgender people, according to Transitics.

The Iowa state legislature has passed and Governor Kim Reynolds signed into law a bill which forbids municipalities and counties from passing legislation protecting transgender people. State law did protect transgender people from discrimination until that provision of the state civil rights statute was removed by the legislature earlier this year. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the state of West Virginia may legally forbid its state Medicare program from paying for gender-affirming care. This decision becomes more controversial as the ruling specifically says that states may forbid Medicaid payments for gender-affirming care because, “It is not irrational for a legislature to encourage citizens to appreciate their sex and not become disdainful of their sex.” But, the patients being denied payment for this procedure are already disdainful of their sex, whether Medicaid covers payments or not. The Oklahoma state House of Representatives voted to no longer allow transgender people to update the gender markers on their birth certificates. This story comes from The Advocate.

The Idaho state House of Representatives passed a bill which would force schools and doctors to tell parents when their child seeks to change genders. Mind you, since Idaho has a ban on gender-affirming care for minors, the doctor cannot provide a prescription for hormones or puberty blockerss. The bill now heads to the state Senate. The Department of Health and Human Services has proposed removing regulations which assure that LGBTQ+ children in the foster care program will be placed with families which respect their gender identities or sexual orientation. This story comes from The Advocate.

President Trump is pressuring Congress to pass his SAVE America act, which he says will safeguard election integrity, even though election fraud is vanishingly small. A federal judge has ruled that Aetna’s blanket rule denying coverage of facial feminization surgery for trans women is discrimination on the basis of sex. The judge notes that cisgender women are not covered by the same policy. Erin Reed has this story at Erin In The Morning.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has signed legislation to create the Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs, and has appointed Taylor Brown, a trans woman, as the first director of that office. The Advocate has this story.

The National Health Service for England announced that it will conduct an “evidence review” concerning the effectiveness of hormone therapy for transgender adults. Since NHS England has already said that the evidence of the benefits of HRT for minors was “really weak,” it’s likely that they will also discount the effectiveness of HRT for adults. The highest court in the European Union has ruled that all states, including Bulgaria (who was the defendant in this case), must allow transgender people to change their name and gender marker on ID documents. The Washington Blade has this story.
