The Department of Homeland Security has made it official–they will not lock hospitals and clinics that treat transgender patients out of receiving money for treating Medicare and Medicaid patients. NPR has this story.

We recently reported that an appeals court has banned the Trump administration from implementing its ban on transgender people in the military. This week, the Department of Justice said that they would appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. This story comes from The Advocate.

The U.S. House of Representatives has submitted its proposed budget for the State Department, it includes a ban on supporting organizations which fund gender-affirming care, and it advances the Global Trans Gag Rule, among other things. Amy Acton, the Deomcratic candidate for Governor of Ohio, is being criticized for saying that she opposes, “boys playing in girls’ sports.” U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur, whose district includes Toledo, Ohio, voted with the Republicans to require parental notification when a child changes gender identity in school. Both are being criticized by the state’s Democratic party, and by LGBTQ groups that affiliate with the party, according to a report in Signal Ohio.

A judge in Arizona has approved an anti-transgender sports and bathroom measure for this fall’s ballot. While the judge admits that “it’s a stretch” to say that the sports measure and the bathroom measure are about the same subject, he said that there is just enough of a connection between them to allow the measure. Two transgender teens have filed a lawsuit against Premera Blue Cross, after the insurance company denied payment for their top surgery. This week, the Trump Department of Justice filed an amicus brief in the case, explaining that the insurance company is permitted to deny coverage in their opinion. A religious couple in Maryland filed a lawsuit, after they found out that their child’s school is using the chosen name and new gender identity of a transgender student. The couple seek to force the school to use the child’s legal name and the sex assigned at birth. PinkNews has this story.
