More than 2.8 million people living in the United States identify as transgender, according to a new poll by the Williams Institute at the University of California Los Angeles School of Law. We constitute approximately 1% of the population 13 or older. They find that younger people are more likely to identify as transgender. Time magazine reports that the information came from two CDC studies, which no longer collect information on transgender people, in compliance with President Trump’s executive order recognizing only two genders and not recognizing changes in gender.
Illinois has become the first state to launch a LGBTQ+ legal hotline. It is called Pride Connect. This story comes from Them.

The state of Florida this week painted over the rainbow crosswalk in Orlando which commemorates the shooting at the Pulse nightclub. Citizens have twice repainted it, but the state keeps removing the rainbows. Erin Reed has this story.
Conversion therapy has been denounced by major medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. It has been linked to depression, substance abuse, suicide, and other mental health issues. Several states have laws against using conversion therapy on minors. In Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear issued an executive order banning conversion therapy, but the state legislature overturned that with a bill, then overrode the governor’s veto of the bill. PinkNews reports on a new study which finds that transgender youths are as consistent in their gender identities as their cisgender counterparts are consistent in theirs.
Terence Stamp passed away this week. He is remembered for several film roles, but one of the most famous was as Bernadette, a transgender woman, in the film The Adventres of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. A sequel was announced to be in the works, but obviously, Terence Stamp will not be in any sequel. Veronica Clifford-Carlos, a transgender woman from California, applied for asylum in the Netherlands, but her application was rejected. She has begun an appeal, which will be heard this week. Reuters has this story.
