Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers used the occasion of Transgender Day of Visibility to veto five–count ’em, five–anti-transgender bills passed by the Republicans in the state legislature. Among those were a bill banning transgender athletes in women’s and girls’ sports, a bill banning gender-affirming medical care for minors, and a bill barring students from choosing what name and pronouns teachers should use when referring to them. Also on Transgender Day of Visibility, the Supreme Court ruled that Colorado’s law banning conversion therapy on minors is unconstitutional. Eight of the nine justices said that it was protected as free speech under the first amendment. This story comes from the Colorado Sun.

As we mentioned recently, Governor Ken Paxton told therapists that affirming the gender identity of a minor with gender dysphoria, even through “talk therapy,” is a violation of the law. According to an article in LGBTQ Nation, his opinion, even with his official seal of office, is not automatically law.

In Idaho, Governor Brad Little signed the state’s new anti-transgender bathroom bill into law. This is the one which extends to restrooms in private businesses. The Idaho Capital Sun has this story.

In one of her last official acts as Attorney General, Pam Bondi filed a lawsuit against Minnesota, saying that they allow transgender athletes to participate in women’s sports in violation of President Trump’s executive order, The Advocae has this story.

In Kentucky, a state Senator has twice been stifled in his efforts to prevent transgender people from teaching in the state. PinkNews reports that he plans to file a bill to declare transgender people “mentally ill.”

A trans woman in Kansas defied the state’s new restroom law by using the ladies’ room at the state Capitol. The incident occurred on Transgender Day of Visibility, and Samantha Boucher, the Executive Director of Trans Liberty, was not arrested. This story comes from Erin In The Morning.

A lawsuit claims that the citizen initiative to put an anti-transgender proposal on the ballot did not have enough valid signatures, and should not have been approved. WGME-TV News has this story.

A new poll released by the Human Rights Campaign seems to show that the majority of Americans oppose lesser rights for transgender people. What it more likely shows is that the idea of equal rights for trans people is popular in general, but perhaps not in specific areas.
