The International Olympic Committee announced that participation in women’s sports at the Olympics will be limited to those who passed a genetic screening to assure that they are “biological women.” These tests are notorious for turning up unexpected results, including one particular athlete who passed the tests several times but failed just before the 2024 games. Democrats in the U.S. Senate have removed anti-trans amendments from the SAVE America Act. Specifically, they blocked the adoption of a ban on transgender females competing in girls’ and women’s sports. This story comes from The Advocate.

Shyell Diamond Sanchez-McCray, a Black transgender woman who participated in beauty pageants and performed at drag events, was murdered. LGBTQ Nation calls her murder the “first anti-trans violent death of 2026.”

Idaho’s state Senate passed a bathroom bill which could lead to life in prison for transgender people who are convicted of using the “wrong” restroom multiple times. The Tennessee Senate approved a bill which will allow a patient to sue doctors for “coercing” them into a gender transition–up to eighteen years after the events took place. The bill now moves to the state House, according to LGBTQ Nation.

The Department of Justice has begun an investigation looking into whether the states of California and Maine violate the rights of cisgender women when they house them with transgender women. The Associated Press has this story.

Maine Governor Janet Mills explained why she opposes the referendum which would ban transgender athletes from women’s sports and a ban on transgender women in restrooms and locker rooms. Erin Reed has this story at Erin In The Morning.

In the same week when Fox News reports on a group trying to pressure the American Academy of Pediatricians into softening its stand on gender-affirming care for minors, the American Medical Association reaffirmed its support for gender-affirming care for minors. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

India has passed a new bill dealing with transgender people. The new bill removes the right of self-identification, among other things, according to Human Rights Watch, who describe the bill as a “huge setback.”
