In the battle between President Donald Trump and Maine Governor Janet Mills, a federal court has sided with the governor. The court has ruled that President Trump does not have the authority to stop payments authorized by Congress–in this case, to pay for school nutrition programs in the state of Maine. While the Department of Justice is likely to appeal that ruling, they are also taking a more direct approach, suing the state of Maine for violating President Trump’s executive order on transgender athletes and the interpretation of Title IX which stems from it. This story comes from CNN.

A federal judge also sided against President Trump’s executive order recognizing only two genders and those as assigned at birth. In particular, the judge’s ruling grants an injunction in favour of the plaintiffs in a case concerning a gender-neutral marker on passports. The injunction only applies to the plaintiffs at this time. The judge ruled that the policy was “arbitrary and capricious,” and that it was based on animus. Erin In The Morning has this story.

A pair of protesters opposed to transgender athletes wore wristbands to a soccer game at the New Hampshire high school. The school board, which backs these transgender athletes, ordered the men to remove the wristbands or leave the stands. When the two men filed suit against the school board, the judge refused their request for a temporary injunction. This story comes from WMUR.

Seth Brunell was on trial, accused of the murder of a transgender woman. The trial ended when he accepted a plea deal. He pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter. He will get no jail time but will be on probation for ten years. WPTZ-TV has this story.

In North Carolina, a Joel Brewer rejected a plea deal in his trial. He is accused of murdering two transgender women in 2021. This story comes from WCNC-TV.

As states with part-time legislatures wind down their 2025 sessions, Erin Reed reports that 850 bills targeting transgender people were filed this year. If you thought that they would be running out of topics on which to show their opposition to us, you would be right–many of these bills cover things which have already been declared illegal in these states. The topics include restroom access, gender listed on ID, changes to birth certificates, transgender athletes, and access to medical care for gender dysphoria.

The Department of Health and Human Services has a new phone number specifically for reporting any doctor who is violating President Trump’s executive order forbidding minors from obtaining gender-affirming medical care. Reports to this line would violate HIPPA laws, but apparently, President Trump believes that he can convince courts that his executive order has a higher priority than patient privacy. the Advocate has this story.

Dr. Mehmet Oz sent a letter, as administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, telling state Medicaid officials to stop covering gender-affirming care for minors. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.

On Monday of last week, Planned Parenthood of Arizona announced it was “pausing” gender affirming care, in response to the letter from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. signed a rule, which removes Gender Dysphoria from disability law. Former President Joe Biden saw to it that gender dysphoria had been included in disability law. PinkNews has this story.

The three offices of the U.S. government instrumental in reporting cases of violence against transgender immigrants or domestic violence among immigrants have been shut down, making it difficult if not impossible to report such violence, according to The 19th*.

The state of Washington passed a bill to increase access to hormone replacement therapy. It requires health plans to cover 12 months of HRT for any patient with a prescription. Erin In The Morning has this story.

Although lawsuits are challenging President Trump’s unilateral cuts to spending for those who do not do as he wishes, many schools have changed their policies regarding transgender students, so as to comply with President Trump’s executive orders. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

This week, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Mahmoud v. Taylor. A group of parents in Maryland is asking to be notified whenever their children’s elementary school is going to be taught from LGBTQ-inclusive books, so that they can take their children out of school for those lessons. According to Them, this case could bring a component of the “Don’t Say Gay” laws to the entire nation.

Newsweek reports that many transgender Americans are seeking asylum in Canada, as a way of escaping President Trump’s anti-transgender policies.

The Olympics in 2028 will be held in Los Angeles. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has announced it will not set any policy regarding transgender athletes at the games. The Guardian has this story.
