As we mentioned in the news, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom decided that transgender women are not women according to the Equalities Act. They reached this decision after listening to several anti-transgender groups, but not listening to groups who support transgender women. Indeed, it appears that J.K. Rowling financed the group who largely argued the case for excluding transgender women. (PinkNews has this story.) For not listening to transgender women before deciding that we aren’t women, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom gets a TWIT.
We also mentioned in the news that the Department of Health and Human Services set up a way for doctors to report minors who receive gender-affirming care despite President Trump’s executive order banning such medical care. Reporting such would violate patient privacy, as protected by the HIPPA law. For asking doctors to violate patient privacy laws, the Department of Health and Human Services gets a TWIT. This story comes from The Advocate.
President Trump met with the president of El Salvador this week. No, they did not arrange for the return of a prisoner whom the U.S. Supreme Court decided was wrongly denied his right to trial. Instead, President Trump talked to President Nayib Bukele about transgender athletes. More specifically, President Trump brought up the topic of transgender boxers, ignoring the fact that the athlete in question had passed a gender test several times before the one she failed for the Olympics. For ignoring an important topic, while rushing to demean transgender people, President Trump and President Bukele get a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.
Vice President J.D. Vance has told the United Kingdom that, if they want to get a trade deal with the United States, they should eliminate their protection of LGBTQ people from hate speech. For demanding the elimination of hate speech laws protecting a vulnerable population, while simultaneously complaining about how some others talk about them, Vice President J.D. Vance gets a TWIT. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.
U.S. Representative Nancy Mace gave a speech to the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition. In the speech, she talked about U.S. foreign aid to transgender people in Guatemala. During the speech, she used the T slur at least four times, according to a report in Them. For repeated uses of a slur against a group to whom she has been known to show hostility, Nancy Mace gets a TWIT.
The Texas state legislature voted to cut funding to the University of Texas at Austin, because of the school’s support of and degree plans for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion, as well as LGBTQ people. Representative Andy Hopper admitted he did not know what the term “intersex” means, but insisted that sex and gender are one and the same, and are determined at birth. For denying the biological fact of intersex individuals, Representative Andy Hopper gets a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.
