A corporate attorney by day is a drag queen at night. A judge rules Arkansas’ law banning affirming care for kids to be unconstitutional. Another judge finds the Florida law forbidding the state’s Medicaid program from paying for gender-affirming care to violate the Affordable Care Act. The state of New Jersey sues three school districts over requirements that teachers must inform parents if their child changes gender presentation in school. New York City is an official sanctuary city for trans people. Other areas are still busy introducing anti-trans legislation. Former NJ governor Chris Christie speaks out against bans on gender-affirming care. Seven sorority sisters file a lawsuit to kick out a trans sister. Trans News Now 6/19/23
What’s new? The leader of Sweden’s liberal party dons drag to make a video opposing anti-drag laws. The AMA increases its support for gender-affirming care. On the other hand, the U.K. NHS is restricting access to puberty blockers. Republican Governor Joe Lombardo of Nevada signs a bill into law requiring insurance companies to cover gender-affirming care. On the other hand, Governor Abbot of Texas extend’s the ban on trans girls in sports to the college level. Trans activist Rose Montoya is banned from the White House for baring her breasts while there for the White House Pride event. The Ohio legislature is working on “One big terrible mega-bill” to take away the rights of trans citizens of the state. A murderer who took the life of a trans woman is using the insanity defense. A transphobe punched a transgender library worker and tried to run down a fellow employee who defended the trans staffer. Punching also happened at a McDonalds in the U.K. when a transphobe punched the winner of the 2019 RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. Alex Newell and J. Harrison Ghee won Tony awards this past week. Meeting Sarah Scott

The Beard-Cover Controversy: Setting the Record Straight
Those in the trans community who have worked to develop their makeup skills often become comfortable with the techniques they first used to create their “look”. Beard cover is one example. Many years ago crossdressing influencers (social media is not the only way influencers exert their influence) advocated for the lipstick method of covering beard shadow. Our founder JoAnn Roberts even put the process in her book on makeup. (Art & Illusion.) Professional makeup artist Gina-Jet Ortiz joins TGF today to explain just why using lipstick to disguise beard shadow is not a good idea.

What’s new in Trans News Now? A trans man is appointed as a judge in New York. A study shows that gender-affirming care reduces the risk of suicide. Four “doctors” are the “experts” who testify against gender-affirming care around the country. The ban on care in Florida still applies to all but the three families who are suing the state. President Biden called opponents of transgender care “hysterical”” and “prejudiced.” Zooey Zephyr paid a visit to Florida this week to speak out against the state’s anti-trans laws. Texas works hard to beat Florida in the gender oppression race. The governor in Arizona vetos a bathroom bill. Louisiana’s governor will veto three anti-trans bills. A library in Montana cancels an event featuring a transgender speaker. Smoke delays the White House Pride Ceremony. A survey finds that 1/3 of those who participated said it is never appropriate to discuss gender identity in schools. The Australian Open will allow trans women to compete as females.
