The states of Kentucky and Tennessee were going to have bans on gender-affirming care go into effect soon, but federal judges have delayed the implementation of those bans. These rulings are in response to pre-trial motions, and indicate that these judges think the bans are likely unconstitutional. The Associated Press has this story.

U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Presnell has placed a temporary injunction on Florida’s new ban on drag in “public places.” This story comes from Them.

New York Governor Kathy Kochul signed a bill into law making that state a “sanctuary state” for those families which seek gender-affirming medical care for their transgender child or children. NBC News has this story.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signed an executive order banning conversion therapy on minors. She also signed an executive order to require that gender-affirming care be covered under the insurance plan which covers state employees and their families. This story comes from The Hill.

The legislature of Michigan has passed a ban on conversion therapy for minors. Governor Gretchen Whitmer is likely to sign the legislation. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

Georgia has passed its ban on gender-affirming care for minors. WABE public radio reports that four families with transgender children are suing to overturn the ban on gender-affirming care.

A new law in Kansas, which forbids the state from updating birth certificates, took effect on July 1. Governor Laura Kelly has issued a directive to state agencies, instructing them to continue updating the gender marker on driver’s licenses and ID cards. This story comes from KCTV-TV.

Zackary Drucker is a transgender filmmaker who is very busy. She has been working on The Stroll and Queenmaker: The Making of an It Girl for Hulu, and was a producer for Biosphere, which comes out in theaters this week. She talked about those projects in Them.

A federal judge in Montana is holding the state Health Department in contempt for not following its procedures to change the gender marker on birth certificates. Two years ago, the state legislature passed and the governor signed into law a bill which forbids the Health Department from updating the gender marker on birth certificates unless the applicant presents letters proving they had gender-confirmation surgery, but Judge Michael Moses ruled that law to be unconstitutional. Judge Moses now says that the Department of Health is in contempt for its “flagrant disregard” of his ruling. ABC News has this story.

A federal judge in Tennessee ruled against a group of transgender litigants, who were suing to overturn the state’s ban on updating the sex marker on birth certificates. Judge Eli Richardson ruled that, while the term “sex” may have different definitions, on a birth certificate it specifically refers to external genitalia at the time of birth. Channell Perez Ortiz

Channell Perez Ortiz, a 29-year-old trans woman, was shot to death in Carolina, Puerto Rico. She is the thirteenth identified transgender woman murdered in the U.S. this year, according to Them.

A professor and two students were stabbed when a stranger with a knife interrupted a gender-studies class. Geovanny Villalba-Aleman has been arrested for the attack, which took place at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. The CBC has this story.

In Britain, a “despicable” bill which would have outlawed social transitions in schools and forced teachers to inform parents if their child changes gender presentation at school was rejected. This story comes from PinkNews.

In Mexico, a new law allows transgender people to change the gender marker on their ID cards or driver’s licenses. The Advocate reports that many rushed to change their gender markers the first day that the law went into effect.

A study from Denmark, which uses four decades of data, shows that indeed, transgender people are at higher risk of suicide. Transgender people attempted suicide at a rate 7.7 times as high as that for cisgender people, and as a result, they have a lower life expectancy than the general population. This study caught the attention of the New York Times.

Suicide prevention contractors hired by The Trevor Project are being laid off, as the pilot period for the 988 hotline ends on July 3. This story comes from Them.
