feminismFeminism is often a difficult word to swallow and has been cruelly abused over time for numerous campaigns. The fight of feminists has been a flag taken up by many transgender male to female comrades. Depending on the feminist we are either welcome or completely banned from the club for ever being tainted with any sort of male persuasion. That’s where it gets tricky and the hardcore female feminists often get it twisted.

To me feminism isn’t a girl’s club. It’s not some army of females formed exclusively of genetic women to overthrow men and anything they ever stood for. Feminism is the love of women. Indeed the definition agrees by stating it is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. Equality is a great idea and the reason I support the equality of women is because I think they even deserve a little bit more than that.

In 1881, Edward Charles Pickering, director of the Harvard Observatory, had a problem. The volume of data coming into his observatory was exceeding his staff’s ability to analyze it. He also happened to be displeased with his assistant. So he fired his male assistant and replaced him with his maid, Williamina Fleming. Fleming proved so adept at computing and copying that she would work at Harvard for 34 years.

Williamina Fleming is one out of billions of examples throughout human history where women measured up to men and at times exceeded their abilities. It’s always been known among the boy’s club that women could easily overthrow them and therefore society was structured against the female persuasion. Say what you will about men, but I think women do it better. I grew up surrounded by powerful yet repressed women. They were strong, inventive and severely crafty ruling the home that their husbands only thought they had control of.

I am a feminist because I believe in women. Part of my transgendered nature was born out of respect for the matriarch. While I identify as gender queer now and walk the line between genders I have always felt that men are boring and women are fabulous. I don’t hate men. I love men. If there were no men I’d have no fun in bed.

I sometimes hate the bulk of things men do, but I think men and women living equally would be radically fabulous. I think if men started truly appreciating women as the goddesses they are they’d understand a lot more about themselves and our planet. Additionally, if men and women accepted each other equally it would open the flood gates for everyone to be equal. I know there are more genders than male and female. Whatever gender you are you could be equally. Very utopic of me, I know.

I’ve always had this great vision of a true matriarchal culture. It’s a culture full of beautiful Amazonian goddesses ruling accordingly. I do think women could do it better than men. I do think most of our hang-ups would no longer exist and sure there would be something to replace them. Nobody is perfect, even a woman. There would be power plays and some sort of dirty politics, but I think it would be a welcome breather compared to the monkey business men have gotten into over the years.
