The Trump administration has released a new rule which would allow them to deny federal funding to various organizations which allow any money to be used to support transgender people. This includes hospitals, universities, school districts, state governments, and non-profit organizations, among others. For deliberately trying to make life harder for people who have a hard time already, the Trump administration gets a TWIT. Erin Reed has this story at Erin In The Morning.
School superintendants whose districts have policies which accept and accomodate the gender identities of transgender students are being accused of “child abuse” by Republicans in Congress. For comparing compassion with abuse, and for exaggeration to the point of making a serious problem seem trivial, Republican officials who throw about the term “child abuse” get a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.
Virginia Senator Tim Kaine fell for the testimony of Chloe Coles. He told her, “Your story is tragic.” He said that it was “a classic case, as you tell it, of medical malpractice.” The doctors listened to their patient, and presumed that the patient was accurately describing the dysphoria that the patient felt. Since then, the patient has had a change of thinking, including an awakening of religious zeal, and has renounced all things transgender. For accusing doctors of malpractice when they listen to the patient, Senator Tim Kaine gets a TWIT. This story comes from Erin In The Morning.
Idaho state officials told a federal judge that they could test users of public restrooms to discover if transgender people are using a restroom not associated with the gender that they were assigned at birth. This assumes that the state has both the legal right to collect such samples of DNA from people for attempting to use a restroom. It also assumes that they have the equipment and the money needed to process all of the samples that they would collect. Even more outrageously, it assumes that all “biological” females have XX chromosomes, when we know that there are “biological” females who do not have XX chromosomes. For making all these ridiculous assumptions, and for thinking that politicians know more about biology than biologists, Idaho Solicitor General Michael Zarian gets a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.
Republicans seem to be concerned that James Talarico could win a seat in the U.S. Senate. Of course, they do not blame themselves for nominating a very flawed candidate for that seat (state Attorney General Ken Paxton). In an attempt to “discredit” Mr. Talarico, they have turned to AI, generating images which allege to be the candidate as a female, and they are distributing those images on social media. For relying on anti-transgender sentiment to overcome the corruption of the Republican candidate, and for failing to see how overused the anti-transgender sentiment has become, as well as for failing to see that the A.I.-generated images are of poor quality, people passing along these A.I.-generated images get a TWIT. This story comes from Them.
