As we mentioned in the news, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to forbid Medicaid from paying for gender-affirming care for minors, even in states where the law specifically orders Medicaid to pay for gender-affirming care for minors. Medicaid was set up to be run by the states. Such federal interference is contrary to the founding principle of Medicaid. (Medicare, which was passed at about the same time, The conservatives, who opposed any massive programs run by the federal government, insisted on state control of Medicaid, as a way to show how much better it could be run. For overturning the principle which their conservative predecessors fought for, and for showing that they are all about getting power for themselves, as well as for insisting that a bunch of lawyers know what is good medicine better than doctors, the people who voted for this bill get a TWIT. CNN has this story.

As we also mentioned in the news, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the ban on gender-affirming care for minors which had been proposed by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the Department of Health and Human Services announced it was making gender-affirming care for minors illegal in the entire nation. For thinking that a bunch of lawyers are better able to determine good medical practice than doctors and medical groups, and for showing that they are more interested in oppressive power than in principals such as states’ rights, the U.S. representatives who voted for this bill and the members of the Department of Health and Human Services who are behind this policy get a TWIT. This story comes from The Advocate.

In the news, we also mentioned that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that she is ordering the F.B.I. to offer cash rewards to those who turn in “domestic terrorist organizations.” Among the things that these groups do is promoting “radical gender ideology,” otherwise known as promoting transgender rights. For violating the First Amendment rights to free speech and to ask for redress of grievances, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi gets a TWIT. This story comes from Them.

Also in the news, we mentioned a new “tip line” in Texas, for turning in transgender people who use the “wrong” restroom. For showing that the state cannot enforce this law on its own, state Attorney General Ken Paxton gets a TWIT. This story comes from the Texas Tribune..

In North Carolina, the Randolph County Board of Commissioners voted to remove all members of the county library board last week, after the board refused to remove the book Call Me Max, a picture book about a transgender boy. For taking an extreme action, holding all responsible for the vote even those who voted as the county commissioners wanted, the Randolph County Board of Commissioners get a TWIT. The Advocate has this story.

While attempting to justify his actions in making gender-affirming care for minors illegal nationwide, Dr. Mehmet Oz misstated how common gender-affirming surgery for minors was. He also overstated the costs of gender-affirming surgery, especially the female-to-male surgery. A recent study found that there were only 85 gender-affirming surgeries performed on minors in the U.S. in 2019, and 82 of those 85 were to reduce the breasts of cisgender males. For acting out of animus, and for showing his animus through his lack of accurate information, Dr. Mehmet Oz gets a TWI. This story comes from Them.
