Florida Attorney General James Uthemeier has accused the Miss Florida and the Miss America competitions of violating the state’s Deceptive and Unfair Practtices Act because they allow transgender women to compete as contestants. He complained about a contestant who lost her title because she would not sign a contract which “would require her to compete against men,” according to the attorney general. For deliberately misgendering transgender women, and for misleading the public in this matter, Florida Attorney General James Uthemeier gets a TWIT. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, the director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said that President Trump believes that “freshly squeezed” Fanta can kill cancer cells. The implication is that the soda pop kills grass, which shows it to be strong enough to kill cancer cells. (First off, dropping normal amounts of soda pop on grass does not kill it. Secondly, certain weed killers will kill grass, yet their manufacturers are paying big money to cancer patients who were exposed to the weed killer.) While Dr. Oz later clarified that this was a joke, it certainly did not seem to be a joke when he said it. For making a deceptive joke about health, Dr. Mehmet Oz gets a TWIT. Idaho Governor Brad Little signed a bill last week which would require doctors, schools, and child care providers to inform parents if their children act in a way inconsistent with their sex assigned at birth. The bill he signed is known as the “Pediatric Secretive Transitions Parental Rights Act.” First of all, “secretive transitions” are, by their nature, temporary. Secondly, the “parental rights” referred to are only a right to be informed; a parent has no right to allow his or her child to transition genders under this act. For deceptive naming, and for limiting parents’ rights, the Idaho legislature gets a TWI. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.
