Vice President Kamala Harris announced this week that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is her running mate. We mentioned last week that Kamala Harris has a history of supporting transgender rights. As governor, Tim Walz signed an executive order making Minnesota a “refuge” for families looking for a place where their child can receive gender-affirming medical care. Not only would gender-affirming medical care be available, but the order also offered to shield patients and their families from punishment by other states for receiving gender-affirming medical care. Trans people can be, and are, a lot of different things: business owners and executives, scientists, techies, and common laborers. But, there is not media representation for all of these possible job titles for transgender people. An opinion piece in Out.com feels that it is time to expand trans representation in novels, movies, and television to reflect our various roles in society.
