An appeals court in Minnesota found that USA Powerlifting violated the state’s Human Rights Act when it did not allow JayCee Cooper, a transgender woman, to enter competitions held in the state. KARE-TV has this story.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a budget for the next six months. By one estimate, 51 of 52 anti-LGBTQ riders on that bill were defeated, leaving only a provision which prohibits the display of pride flags at U.S. embassies. Among the defeated riders were one which would ban federal funds used to finance gender-affirming care for minors and another which would have defunded hospitals which prescribe puberty blockers. The bill has passed the Senate, and been signed by President Biden. This story comes from Them.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to take up the case brought by an Indiana couple whose child was removed from them and placed with another couple, because the child’s parents refused to affirm their child’s gender identity. They enrolled the child in conversion therapy, after which the child developed an eating disorder, which experts told the court was likely caused by the lack of acceptance by the family. Although West Virginia adjourned its legislative session without passing its Women’s Bill of Rights, that legislation is still pending in some other states. Erin Reed runs down the latest on some anti-trans bills in state legislatures.

The Tennessee state Senate approved a bill which would penalize schools for not telling parents that their child confided to a teacher that they feel they are transgender. This story comes from the Tennessee Lookout.

Alabama passed a bill which ends programs which promote diversity, equality, and inclusion at universities in the state. That law also requires universities to “designate restrooms on the basis of biological sex,” despite the fact that biologists insist that chromosomes are not reliable indicators of sex. In Georgia, several state Senators attached provisions into a bill to protect the mental health of student athletes. These provisions not only prevent transgender athletes from participating in school sports, they also require parents to be notified every time their child checks out a book at a library. The author of the bill told WSB-TV that he can no longer vote for the bill, given the amendments.

A national ban on transgender athletes participating in women’s and girls’ sports has passed the House Judiciary Committee, and has advanced to be considered by the full House. The Advocate has this story.

Manhattan School District number 2 has approved a ban on transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports. This follows a similar ban by Nassau County. This story comes from CBS News.

According to Bloomberg Law, lawyers opposing the Alabama ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors have been accused of “judge-shopping.” The lawyers have been ordered to appear in May to explain their actions.

Diamond Brigman

In Houston, Diamond Brigman, a Black transgender woman, was shot to death on the street. Police have a good description of a suspect, but have not yet made an arrest. The Advocate has this story.

Alex Franco, a trans man, was found dead in the Utah desert. Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with the death. This story comes from Them.

Carlos Lamar Scotland has been charged with the killing of Black transgender woman Ashia Davis last year. WJBK-TV has this story.

A transgender migrant was shot to death last month outside a nightclub in Chicago. Police made an arrest, but released the suspect. Many want to know why the suspect was released, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The District Attorney in Oklahoma has decided not to charge the students who assaulted Nex Benedict. The DA says it was “an instance of mutual combat.” PinkNews has this story.

Two toxicologists told The Advocate that, while they have not seen the entire autopsy of Nex Benedict, the two medications which, together, caused Nex Benedict’s death are safe when taken as directed.

Emmett Brock, a transgender man who was beaten by a Los Angeles County deputy, has been declared “factually innocent” of all charges against him. He is still suing the police over the incident. This story comes from Them.

Alejandra Caraballo, a transgender lawyer, had her account on X suspended, then reinstated the next day. She had revealed the identity of a fellow user who makes anti-Semitic content, whom she identified as a neo-Nazi. Elon Musk claimed that she had a history of doxing individuals, although later he claimed not to know why her account was suspended. The Advocate has this story.

A new study shows that about one-third of trans men ovulate while on testosterone therapy. Moreover, trans men can get pregnant while taking testosterone. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

25 academics are calling on the Olympics to change their focus on the inclusion of transgender athletes. They feel that the emphasis on testosterone levels is wrong, and that the emphasis should be on male development instead. This story comes from Reuters.

Daily Camera has a profile of Jesse Freidin, a photographer who has taken portraits of transgender people Mr. Freidin has been taking photographs of transgender children, and has been noticing how the legislation is affecting them.

GLAAD is urging Meta to take a more active role in combating anti-transgender speech on their platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. The Advocate has this story.
