Virginia’s Fairfax County School Board is suing the Trump administration, saying that they are illegally withholding money appropriated by Congress in order to make the district adopt the administration’s anti-transgender policies. FFX Now has this story.
The state of South Carolina has asked the Supreme Court to take up its school bathroom law on the emergency docket. The district is caught between an appeals court decision which insists that a transgender student has a right to use the restroom which matches his or her gender identity, and the spirit of the court’s decision in U.S. v. After a decade of trying, the Texas House of Representatives has passed a bathroom bill which forces transgender people to use the restroom of their “biological sex.” The bill, which will find a transgender person $25,000 per violation, now goes to Governor Gregg Abbott for his signature. Robin Westman broke into Anunciation Catholic Church during a school Mass and started shooting. Two students have died, while seventeen children and two adults were injured. The shooter was also killed. Almost immediately, some on the far right quickly blamed the incident on “another transgender shooter,” citing other cases including ones in which later evidence showed that the shooter was not transgender at all. Now that the Department of Health and Human Services no longer supports gender-affirming care for minors, what do they recommend for minors who have gender dysphoria? The answer is, they recommend “Gender Exploratory Therapy.” According to The Advocate it bears a striking resemblance to conversion therapy. Gender Exploratory Therapy “discourages affirmation and instead promotes an exploratory approach using talk therapy to identify potential pathological origins of individuals’ transgender identity and gender dysphoria,” says Dr Michael Grey.
