Boston declared itself a sanctuary city for transgender people this week. NBC News has this story.

In Los Angeles, Linda Becera Moran died after refusing a police order to drop a knife that she had. She told the police that she had been kidnapped shortly before this incident. This story comes from The Advocate.

The body of a “Julie Doe” in Florida has been identified as transgender woman Pamela Leigh Walton. The body was found on September 25, 1988, about two to four weeks after she had died. The body was identified by a DNA match. The Advocate has this story.

Judge Ana Reyes hopes to rule in the next week on whether President Trump’s ban on transgender people in the military should be blocked until the trial. However, she gave a hint about her feelings on the matter when she took the Department of Justice’s lawyers to task. She claims that they misrepresented the results of studies, and that they “don’t understand the scope of the symptoms of gender dysphoria. . .You don’t know the answer to what ‘attempted to transition’ means.” This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.

Although Judge Reyes has not decided whether to issue an injunction barring the military from implementing President Trump’s ban on transgender people in the armed services, the Pentagon has announced plans to start dismissing transgender people later this month. The Advocate has this story.

Although a federal judge has ordered the Justice Department to not move forward with its plans to rehouse transgender female prisoners in male prisons, The Guardian reports that the Trump administration is transferring prisoners anyway.

A headline in Bloomberg Law says, “HHS Drops Appeal Of Block On Transgender Health Bias Rule.” The rule which the Department of Health and Human Services will not appeal is a rule that was created by the Biden administration. In other worts, the Trump administration feels that it is just fine to discriminate against transgender people “on the basis of sex,” in violation of the Bostock ruling of the Supreme Court.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cut funding to the University of Maine, and other agencies may follow suit. Although the University of Maine has no transgender athletes on its athletic teams, and only two transgender athletes are known to compete in the K-12 level in the state, the university does not have a rule prohibiting them, so various federal agencies are suspending their funding of the university. A member of the Maine state legislature who was censured after she kept releasing information on a transgender athlete is now suing, saying that the censure violates her first amendment rights. This story comes from the Associated Press.

The Supreme Court has scheduled arguments on whether a state’s ban on conversion therapy is constitutional. In this instance, the state is Colorado, but similar bans in 27 other states are at risk. It will be interesting to see if Chief Justice John Roberts will again argue that the members of the court are not experts in what is good medicine and what is not. The Advocate has this story.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey signed into law a bill which defines “man” and “woman” according to reproductive biology. The law erases transgender and nonbinary identities, according to LGBTQ Nation.

President Trump called out January Littlejohn as a guest at his recent speech before a joint session of Congress. She is a parents’ rights activist, who sued because her child was allowed to use they/them pronouns in school without her permission. This week, a panel of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the school did not have to inform her that her child has asked teachers to use a gender-neutral pronoun and the initial “J” in place of the name at school. A $600,000 grant for study into safer menstruation products was cancelled because the grant application contained one reference to transgender men. This story comes from Them.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says that it is illegal for transgender people to use a changed gender on their driver’s license or state ID card. In saying this, he told the department of Motor Vehicles to ignore court orders from judges who say that the gender should be changed. Erin Reed has this story.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon signed into law a bill which allows an individual to sue if the individual encounters a transgender person in a restroom or changing room built for multiple occupants. The bill also allows prisoners to sue if they are housed with a transgender person under certain circumstances. This story comes from The Advocate.

The Center for American Progress released a report which finds that intersex and transgender Americans faced a lot of discrimination in 2024, even before President Trump resumed office. The Advocate has this story.

Kai Schreiber, the transgender daughter of Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber, made her debut as a model at Paris Fashion Show Week this week. This story comes from Them.

Recently, Disney made changes to the script of the limited series Win Or Lose, to remove references to one character being transgender. They allowed another character in that series to be shown as a Christian. Now, the studio has been charged with hiding social media posts critical of them changing the dialogue to drop the transgender story line. This story comes from Them.

The Association of the Scientific Medical Societies has enforced gender-affirming care for transgender youths, starting early. They disagree sharply with the Cass Report, and said to in their endorsement. This story comes from Erin Reed.

WorldPride is being held in Washington, D.C., from May 17 to June 8. InterPride issued a travel advisory for LGBTQ people who want to come to World Pride. The advisory says that the attitude of the U.S. government is especially dangerous for transgender and intersex individuals. The Washington Blade has this story.

At a recent hearing by the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative Keith Self, the chair of the committee, introduced Representative Sarah McBride as, “the gentleman from Delaware.” Representative McBride responded by saying, “Thank you, Madam Chair.” Although Representative McBride was willing to drop it after that quick return, Representative Bill Keating took it farther, asking, “Have you no decency?” There was a bit of a back-and-forth, and Representative Self adjourned the meeting rather abruptly.
