TG’s off the Deep End in Costa Rica
This month’s report centers on the happenings in the area of our Resort/Retreat Center in Costa Rica. Recently we had a couple of T-Girls living the experience of being fully TG here, and in public. Having never ventured out of their own back rooms at home, dressing only in private, it was a real life changer for them to do this here. Being so far from home and in a foreign land made it more comfortable as they would not be recognized nor looked down upon.
After having sessions while still at the retreat, on how to let your fem out without having to go overboard on makeup, hair or dressing too provocatively, we ventured out to shop the many upscale used clothing stores in the city of San Isidro only 40 minutes from us. I have lucked out many times there finding dresses (see pictures) worth hundreds in pristine condition, some even brand new for only $2.00 to $4.00, so the girls really had a field day visiting all of the shops, makeup stores and so on. The Costa Rican people were so wonderful and respectful to us. Being a Catholic country it is not okay for your own daughter or son to be TG but it is quite fine for gringa’s. I have visited all of the shops in the city and they know me well in my fem, guy or in-between states so there were no surprises when I showed up with a couple more T-Girls. Most places are on hug-and-kiss-the-cheek greeting terms. I even take many GG’s shopping and we come back with garbage bags full of clothing — so much so they need to get more suitcases for the return trip north.
We are located close to the more touristy area of Quepos and Manuel Antonio, where it is totally LGBT friendly with about 30 LGBT owned or friendly hotels with rainbow flags on the outsides of shops and restaurants as well. This is a great place couples can go to let down their guard walking hand in hand down the street, on the beach, or letting loose for an evening’s entertainment and dancing. Unfortunately there are lots of the LGB’s about but very little “T” presence, although we are very welcome in the community. Thursday nights in the high season is Drag Charity Bingo Night at one of the clubs where the numbers are pulled by the girls, with the show and later on. OOOLALA.
The bottom line is that here in this Southern Pacific Zone one can just be natural as you are and not feel threatened. I have used either appropriate restroom as befit my apparel without incident or even a sideways glance. I have never seen any snickering behind our backs, but more curiosity since most of the native Costa Rican’s think all Gringa’s are either rich or famous they must think that being TG is very normal in our countries and they don’t want to appear unhip or unwise about such things. This is kind of humorous actually.
The Pacific Ocean beaches are only twenty minutes away from us where one can usually walk for miles and rarely see another soul. This makes getting a very even tan without white lines from your bikini or swimsuit when you lay out an easy task. Of course I am totally sold on this area of Costa Rica near the beach town of Dominical, with some of the best surfing waves in the country. Certain times of the year you can see humpback whales and dolphins out in great numbers. The temperatures in our mountain retreat are usually 75 to 85 degrees all year round. We like to say it is July here every day. So if you are looking for a place to travel I would recommend this newly discovered area to anyone. The centers farther north are more built up, touristy and can be more problematic. I would avoid them.
Our philosophy from here at the Valley of Dreams, for all TG’s, is to seek to balance the M & F energies, and to get out of the house into the real world.
Our Motto: We are TG, Look out World, Get Used to it, We’re not Going Away!
