Like we planned it, or something. What words, you ask? Tranny. Queer. And other words that people use with differing intent. Some use the words to hurt. Other use the words to empower. The Artist D has a theme for 2017. This year will be an exploration of what it means to be different, to be an individual and not let words hurt. The Artist D takes the words that have been hurled against her and embraces them as an identity that is truly individual. “Bad” words can be used with love and The Artist D will expound on that in the Tranny Queer theme throughout 2017.
The Artist D is never one to lack an opinion. Today she has an opinion about words. As The Bee Gees said before they went disco, “It’s only words….” Words can have power. Words can hurt. The Artist D feels that words only have the power to hurt you if you let them. Today her opinion is about the word “tranny” and whether those who use it are automatically doomed to the ranks of the transphobic.
