Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signs into law the state’s extension of anti-discrimination legislation, which protects against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. New Mexico has also passed legislation amending its anti-discrimination law. Suspects have been arrested in several recent trans victim murder cases. Florida, Georgia, and West Virginia are banning or preparing to ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors. President Biden called the anti-transgender legislation in Florida “close to sinful”. Meanwhile legislators in Iowa and Arkansas have imposed bans on trans students using the school’s restroom and locker room facilities matching their gender identity. Texas wants people whose children are exposed to a drag show to be able to sue the performers. The trans woman who appeared in a Hersey’s ad for International Women’s Day became the target of transphobic hate. The Kum & Go chain of gas stations with convenience stores tweeted their support of trans rights. President Biden signs an executive order mandating the government to pursue equality in hiring. Several states are passing laws banning gender-affirming care for trans youth. South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Florida are all aboard the banning train. Marco Rubio has introduced a ban on transgender people in the military. As a religious trans woman Elizabeth was happy to find a conference that might help her reconcile her faith with her feelings of womanhood. After she arrived she found that it wasn’t just the panels and seminars on religion and transgender issues. It was the wonderful people who were attending.
