It’s time again for the feature we call The Week In Trans! Today we learn that British Vogue has hired its first openly transgender columnist. The woman who died in ICE custody was beaten before she passed away. The administration’s urging of a rapid ruling from the SCOTUS on trans troops is likely to not hurry up the court. It appears that as trans people come out more, violence against us increases. A school guidance counselor in Florida has caused problems with parents by steering students to trans aware health care. A twelve-year-old drag performer makes enough money to buy his parents a new house. A political party in Canada passes a resolution calling Gender Identity Theory a “liberal ideology.” A trans clinic has opened in San Jose, California. There is a group of drag performers with Down Syndrome. There are many responses to the NYT op-ed from a trans woman that said her neo-vagina doesn’t make her happy. Last week was Transgender Awareness week and November 20 was the Transgender Day of Remembrance. The Trump administration asks the Supreme Court to rule on the trans military ban. Activists project “Transgender People #WontBeErased” on a Trump hotel. A film titled The Real Thing is available on Vimeo. PM Justin Trudeau refuses to back down on trans protections in the new North American trade agreement. Native Americans recognized 5 genders. Butterfly will be coming to the CBC. The new chair of the House Armed Services Committee promises to make sure transgender people are welcome in the military. An organization has compiled a list of all the court cases that can affect transgender people. Colorado is not only adding a trans legislator, they’ve added the option to use X on state ID. A transgender prisoner has won a legal battle with her state. Celine Dion has created a line of gender neutral clothes for kids. Poland’s president wants to erase LGBT people from school curriculums. Trans women in Sumatra get hosed by police. A survey finds that the majority of primary care doctors are willing to treat transgender patients. Dr. Dana Bevan is in Argentina for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Symposium 2018. She was recently elected to the USPATH Board of Directors, WPATH’s USA subsidiary and decided to attend. While she is there she is filing reports on what goes on. Today she tells us about her flight and arrival in Buenos Aires. The conference gets underway today (Monday) and Dana will file a report on the full conference next week.

Dina always has special on the menu and today they include an appetizer about anti-discrimination laws “allowing men in the lady’s room.” She also has an appetizer of girls playing high school football that is sure to be interesting, and pave the way for an entree consisting of spicy “rollergirls” skating into Dina’s dreams. Her best entree item is an appreciation of the stylish ladies of the ’60s who influenced her fashion sense, and may still be providing role models for the drag performers of today. The desert special at the Diner is a sweet look at the Playboy bunnies of yesterday, and the new ones on duty today. Order a cup of java and settle down for another great time at Dina’s Diner!

The State Department has changed the gender marker on passports from “gender” to “sex.” Fashion designer Marco Marco used 34 transgender models in his show for New York Fashion Week — and no cis models. A ballot initiative in Massachusetts could repeal transgender protections. Activists are fighting to educate people so they vote it down. The studies have been published and they confirm that extending restroom rights to trans people does not cause more sexual assaults in restrooms.
