The Rev. Yolanda Mapes is going to be celebrating her birthday soon and in honor of the occasion our trans music scene writer Pamela DeGroff has done an interview with the Rev. Yolanda. Pamela DeGroff reviews an advance copy of the new CD by Michelle Rocking Horse Garcia. Ms. Garcia added “Rocking Horse” to her name when she learned another woman was gaining fame as Michelle Garcia. Ms. Garcia is a musician, singer and songwriter from the west coast who moved to Nashville. Even though everyone in that town is a musician she has managed to stand out. Pamela reviews the CD and then gives you some music news and a mini review of the new EP by Alex Newell, the young man who played the trans girl on Glee.
Today Pamela DeGroff reviews the latest CD from trans woman, jazz musician and composer Jennifer Leitham. It’s called Mood Swings and features original compositions and Leitham’s take on the songs of others, including The Beatles’ You Won’t See Me. Today Pam DeGroff’s TVocalizer is the multi-talented Kokumo. She’s a songwriter, singer, actress and political and social activist who is a champion for the rights of black transwomen. She owns a media production company and has released an extended play CD to be followed next year by her second EP. Last month Pamela DeGroff introduced TGForum readers to the TG singer/songwriter Namoli Brennet. Ms. Brennet gave Pamela a copy of her latest CD, “Namoli Brennet Live.” Today Pamela does a review of the CD which includes live versions of songs from all of Ms. Brennet’s caree. Our TG music columnist Pamela DeGroff has a review of a CD by Michelle “Rocking Horse” Garcia titled Laughin’ in the Kitchen. Originally released in 2008 Garcia has started doing a television cooking show and each show features, in addition to creating a delicious dish, a performance of one of the songs from the CD.
