What’s going on in regard to transgender people and issues? Cecilia Gentili’s funeral at St. Patrick’s Cathedral was cut short and the Archbishop spoke out against Ms. Gentili. Friends of the deceased want an apology from the Church. A man is on trial for the murder of his secret transgender girlfriend. He allegedly killed her to keep her from talking about their relationship. The city council of Columbia, Missouri declares itself a “safe haven” for LGBTQ+ people. Legislation and court battles over transgender people’s rights continue to dominate the news. In good news, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals rules that a Texas law banning drag performances cannot be put into effect. Some conservatives in Georgia speak out against a bill which would ban the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity saying it would limit parent’s choice in education. Several Republican members of the House of Representatives threaten to shut down the government if their anti-transgender policies are removed from budget negotiations. A new study finds that about one-third of transgender men still ovulate while on testosterone therapy. Lux Pascal is cast in an upcoming thriller, The Summer War. The funeral service for Cecilia Gentili filled St. Patrick’s Cathedral but it wasn’t a hit with New York’s Catholics. State legislatures continue to introduce bills they say are to “protect” children when the bills would do the opposite. The ACLU has filed suit against the state of Virginia, over its model policies on dealing with transgender students. The woman who “outed” a student who was not transgender and exposed her to abuse has been censured by the Utah State Board of Education. Saruda “Pimai” Panyakham is Miss Trans Thailand 2024. The legislature of Wyoming thinks it knows what’s good for a transgender child. Legislators in Tennessee are considering a bill which would require doctors who provide gender-affirming medical care to fill out forms that would allow the state to identify the patients. Callie Butcher is a transgender woman from Texas who is seeking a seat in the House of Representatives. Lilly Wachowski will direct Trash Mountain. The 2022 U.S. transgender Survey released results this week. 92,329 transgender and non-binary responded and only a small number were unhappy after transition. The National LGBTQ Task Force has a new Director of Advocacy and Action. The Virginia state legislature defeats the entire slate of anti-transgender legislation before it this year. The North Carolina restroom bill started the restroom war eight years ago. A transgender woman from Colorado has had her Canadian refugee status revoked. A cisgender girl in Utah receives police protection for death threats after a member of the state Board of Education claims that she is transgender. Transgender activists stage die-ins at Florida driver’s license offices statewide, protesting the state’s stance on changing genders on official ID. A bill in Iowa aimed at removing protections from discrimination on the basis of gender identity dies in committee. The Biden administration has asked the Supreme Court to rule on the question of whether state bans on gender-affirming care are constitutional. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals refused to put a hold on an injunction on Idaho’s law banning gender-affirming care for minors. The documentary, Will & Harper had its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, after which, it was purchased by Netflix. Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed an anti-trans restroom and locker room bill into law. The Texas Supreme Court held a hearing on the legality of that state’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. Alberta is the first Canadian province to ban gender-affirming surgery for minors. There is a growing market for wedding attire that is gender neutral. Colorado will soon have a prison just for transgender women. Some Anglo-Saxon warriors during the Dark Ages may have been trans men. There’s all that and more waiting for you in Trans News Now!

The Ohio legislature overturns the governor’s veto of their anti-trans legislation. Sixty eight families with trans kids leave the state. Missouri legislators require students to use the restroom that matches their “biological sex”. Iowa legislators explore removing protections for discrimination over gender identity. Lia Thomas begins a legal challenge to restrictions placed on transgender swimmers. Transgender veterans are suing the VA because it has not covered gender-affirming care. Thanks to Ron DeSantis prisoners in Florida will not be able to get gender-affirming care in prison. The Biden administration calls for a $700,000 grant to create sex education material which includes transgender males. A study suggests that less than one percent of those who have gender surgery experience regret. One of the trans women who was denied a place on the ballot because she didn’t list her deadname may be included after all. The National Center for Transgender Equality and the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund will merge this summer. More than 500 bills were introduced last year which attacked LGBTQ rights, many of which were specifically aimed at the rights of transgender people. The South Carolina state House of Representatives has approved a ban on gender-affirming care for minors. The Missouri state legislature debated eight anti-transgender bills in one day. The Ohio governor’s proposed rules affect transgender adults as well as minors. Canada’s Drag Race crowned Venus, the first time a First Nations drag queen has won a Drag Race series. The Maine legislature is working to make the state more of a safe haven for families with transgender children.
