Saturday Night, March 29, 2014 we attended the 28th edition of the Night of A 1000 Gowns, a 6 hour Epic Charity Gala produced by the Imperial Court of New York (ICNY), that concluded with the Coronation Ceremony of Emperor XXIII Tony Monteleone and Empress XXVIII Twinkle Montgomery at midnight. The beneficiaries were God’s Love We Deliver and The True Colors Fund. The venue was the Broadway Ballroom in the Marriot Marquis Hotel at Times Square!

ICNY is part of the Imperial Court System, A Federation of some 70 organizations throughout North America that make up the largest social drag organization in the world that has raised millions for HIV and LGBT charities. The Imperial court was founded almost 50 years ago by the late Jose Sarria, The Widow Norton who has the distinction of being the very first “out” LGBT person to run for political office in the United States. He never did get elected to office, but his legacy lives on impressively.
The performers and Dignitaries were impressive. Martha Reeves from Martha and the Vandellas, Sarah Bernhard as well as the cast of the Broadway show Pippin performed. Edie Windsor, plaintiff in the Federal case that broke DOMA, received the Imperial Diamond Award.
It is fun, it is memorable! You will not see more glitz nor glitter and the basic rule is that you cannot overdress!
