Magic in Merida has been cancelled.

Perhaps one of the most fun and unique experiences awaits you in Merida Mexico, capital of the Yucatan and premier destination for all travelers to Mexico, February is Carnival time in Merida and anything goes at Magic in Merida from Feb. 11-15. So what could be better than flamboyant fashion and revelry? How about  flamboyant fashion and revelry in a beautiful tropical city?

merida01Sponsored by Sister House, this international celebration for women in the transgender community is a first ever event. Modeled after Diva Las Vegas, it’s structured as a fun time enjoying the experience of being a woman in the most LGBT-friendly city in Mexico. This city of a million people is tied to its ancient Mayan culture.   It’s a city filled with beautiful architecture from the colonial era and Yucatecans enjoying life through daily music and dancing. Night life is the lifeblood of the city and the streets are often crowded well past midnight and more so during Carnival time.

And not just friendly, but also the most safe city in all Mexico … as safe as a trip to Montana where crime is minimal. In fact Merida has tourist police whose sole purpose is to help tourists. With Carnival Cruise Lines (and others) making twice a week stops in Progreso, our beach town, tourists are the lifeblood of this city.

So what is in store for you?

merida02With luxury accommodations in the beautiful Hotel Castillano located just just three blocks from the city center, you are well located to enjoy the many restaurants and waterholes of the city, and it’s the center of LGBT life in the city too.

merida03We have something for everybody: tours to local places of interest including the best Mayan ruins on the peninsula, the famous flamingoes at Celestun, an old working hemp plantation with donkey-drawn rail carts, a photo shoot at the striking and beautiful Hacienda Misne and of course Carnival. We’ll have VIP seating at the Friday show.

merida04And Saturday night is really special as guests of the Blue Queen night club and it’s famous drag show. You’ll meet their performers one on one and have your makeup done in their dressing room with the girls. After a special dinner, we’ll attend the late night show which will be labeled as Transgender Night. We’re hoping there will be an amateur fashion show that evening and you can participate if you wish. VIP seating of course.

Sound like fun. Check out all the details here. If ever you wanted a special experience to last you a lifetime, then come to Magic in Merida.
