How Do You Get a Close Shave?
There’s one thing a crossdresser needs before the transformation process can begin — a close shave! If your goal is passing then there’s no quicker way to get read as a man in a dress than having your beard poke through your foundation. And a shave that is close but irritates your skin can be just as bad since the irritation raises bumps that seem to be amplified by the makeup and will show up when light hits your face from the right angle.
So what do we do to get a good close shave, reduce razor burn and give us a soft, smooth canvas to apply our cosmetic enhancements upon? The answer is not the same for all faces and all beards. Sadly the razor that works well for some people will leave others with the Death of a 1000 Cuts. We can recommend triple blade razors and various shave creams and after shave emollients, but if we just publish one technique there are sure to be readers who find that it doesn’t work for them. So what we’re going to do is give you a few ideas to consider and ask you to share the process and tools you use that work for you to get that desired close shave using the Comment area below. - Many people let their beards grow in for a couple of days before they go for that close shave.
- Some use a hot towel on their face and neck for a few minutes to soften the beard before applying any shave cream.
- A facial buff and soap may be used before shaving to make sure there are no hairs caught under epidermis and are standing up ready to be mowed down.
- Some shavers find that using a cold compress on the face makes the hairs stand up and the skin contract away so the razor cuts more hair and less skin.
- There are all kinds of shave creams out there to choose from. Foamy works for some. Others prefer a gel. Then there are special shaving lotions such as Coochy, an emolliant filled shaving lotion that is made for shaving any part of the body and touts that you won’t get a razor rash.
- Razors used vary from old fashioned single blade types to double blade, triple blade and five blade razors. While some get a great shave with a Gillette Good News razor other’s swear by the five blade razor. Unless you have a very light beard an electric razor will not do the job.
- Drag queen have been known to use an ice bag on their face after shaving. Ice is always good to stop inflammation and what is razor burn but inflammation?
- Some find that aloe vera gel on the face may also help keep inflammation to a minimum.
