Adam Sandler — Insulting to TGs?

Adam Sandler has a new film coming out, which we mentioned a while ago in TWIT. The photos we saw of him in wardrobe for the sister role weren’t encouraging. Now there is a trailer for the film, and through the wonder of video we can observe Sandler’s acting skill in action. Some bloggers in the GLBT community are taking shots at Sandler and his portrayal of Jill. Queerty blogger Dave White maintains that Sandler’s Jill is “Tyler-Perry-level-man-in-a-dress” acting and a slap in the face to the GLBT community. Well, Sandler did willingly participate in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. But that doesn’t mean he’s purposely picking on us.

The Jill character is supposed to be the annoying sister so she’s not supposed to be too likable. I’ve seen the trailer and I don’t think there’s any transgender  bashing going on. If you ask me, and I do have some showbiz cred, Sandler was really attempting to make the annoying sister a real female person, not some trans stereotype. Take a look at the trailer and make your own decision about whether the Queerty attack is warranted.

I’m not a fan of Adam Sandler but I did have some chuckles with this trailer. I see no reference to the transgender communities at all, except the fact that he is playing a “twin sister.” If the movie comes out to say that she is transgender, then it may be considered to be derogatory. But as it is, I see more evidence of the twin’s equivalent of blackface than a transgender equivalent of blackface.

Coming from NE, I’ll have to agree with Linda. Sandler has always had an off-beat, sarcastic humor about him. Which I have enjoyed over the years to include some of his songs. I don’t see this film depicting the TG commune in a negative way at all. I would say the Fraternal Twin commune would be more apt to complain, having met many through the years I’ve noticed with some they either both have more feminine traits or masculine ones.

You know you can’t tell how a movie is just by the trailer alone lets see the movie first then make that judgement

Adam Sandler movies are always poking fun at somebody – golfers, New Englanders, single dads. Golfers, New Englanders and single dads have been able to see the humor in it. Why shouldn’t TG’s?
But I don’t know if ‘Jill’ is identified in the film as TG. It didn’t say so in the trailer. She seems to be that loud overbearing, demanding relative that many of us have. (Heck, in my family maybe that’s me!)
I enjoyed the trailer. I will probably enjoy the film – when its available on an airline screen.

Like all Adam Sandler pictures, this one is trash. Yes, he takes a big potshot at transgender men and it is insulting to our intelligence.
