The city of San Francisco named D’Arcy Drollinger to be the first Drag Laureate in the United States. This story comes from Them.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has withdrawn his emergency rule which forbade gender-affirming medical care for minors. However, Missouri is likely to have such a ban, just not under the Attorney General’s emergency order. The legislature has passed a bill, and the ban on medical care for minors awaits the signature of Governor Mike Parson. The Missouri Independent has this story.

Republicans have introduced a bill in Congress which would ban gender-affirming care for minors. While the bill might possibly pass in the House of Representatives, it has less likelihood of passing in the Senate, and would not withstand a veto from President Biden. Another bill would ban the use of “taxpayer funds” for transition-related expenses. This story comes from Fox News.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed four bills concerning transgender people, including a ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors (and some adults), a ban on drag shows in public, protection for teachers who refuse to use the correct pronoun, and a bathroom bill. Governor DeSantis also signed into a law a bill which allows the state of Florida to take transgender children away from parents who affirm their child’s gender. This story comes from The New Republic.

The Human Rights Campaign reports that a lawsuit against the Florida ban on gender-affirming care has already been filed.

Tampa Pride has cancelled at least one event, as a result of the ban on drag. The Advocate has this story.

The Texas legislature has also passed a ban on gender-affirming care, and sent it to Governor Greg Abbott for his signature. This story comes from The Texas Observer.

The Texas legislature has also passed a bill which would bar transgender athletes in college sports. This bill would bar transgender male athletes as well as transgender female athletes, as The Texas Tribune points out.

A bill to force schools to tell parents that their child is transgender has failed a committee vote in New Hampshire. This story comes from the Associated Press.

In Nebraska, the filibuster on gender-affirming care and one on an abortion ban have ended. The Advocate has this story.

This year’s legislative sessions are ending in states with part-time legislatures, but next year will likely feature more of the same, according to Reuters.

DeeDee Hall

A grand jury in Dallas decided that no charges will result from the death of Dee Dee Hall, a transgender woman who was being forcibly detained by police at the time of her death last year. The Advocate has this story.

Senators Ted Cruz and Marsha Blackburn say that he is opening an investigation into Bud Light’s deal with Dylan Mulvaney. According to the Texas senator, Ms. Mulvaney’s fan base is young, and that raises questions about the been targeting an audience too young to buy their product. Lesley Mumford won a cycling race for females in her age group. (She is 46 years old.) She ended up alone on the podium, when the second- and third-place finishers were no-shows on the podium. While the two did not talk about their decision, opponents of transgender athletes acted as though it was a victory for their side. This story comes from The New York Post.

ANOHNI and the Johnsons have a new song, It Must Change, which is the single of their new album due out July 7. The video features Munroe Bergdorf, and the song is a tribute to trans people. This story comes from Them.

A group of about 200 transgender, non-binary, and ally writers joined the strike by the Writers Guild of America. They formed a picket line outside Netflix studio. In addition to the WGA calls for increased pay and more writers in certain situations, they also called for better representation by transgender people and better transgender characters. The upcoming film Theater Camp has several LGBTQ performers, including trans actress Patti Harrison. Unfortunately, if the trailer is accurate, she is not in the film for long. This story comes from Them.

Kim Petras is one of four women who will grace the cover of different editions of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue this year. Megan Fox, Brooks Nader, and Martha Stewart are the other three. The Hill has this story.

Kim Petras also announced her new album, Feed The Beast, which will be released on June 23. It is being called her “debut album.” She has previously released three collections of songs, which fans consider to be albums, even though they were never officially referred to as such, according to a story in PinkNews.

Penny Mordaunt, the Conservative MP who served as the Women and Equality Minister, now says that she sees “no incompatibility” between protecting trans rights and protecting women’s rights. The Los Angeles Dodgers are planning a Pride night. At first, they included the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence among the groups who were invited to join them (according to the wording the club used later). However, this week the club announced that the drag group would not be participating. No reason for this change was officially announced, which makes one think that the reason must be either too terrible to mention or else too petty. This gave outlets such as The Advocate the opportunity to allow the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence a chance to defend themselves.

The New York Times has a story about how those trying to ban gender-affirming care for minors use the same few stories of individual detransitioners, without regard to fact that the experiences of these individuals is not at all common.

Dr. Jesse Ehrenfeld is the first out gay president of the American Medical Association. His presidency coincides with several state legislatures trying to restrict what care doctors can give to transgender patients, especially patients under age 18. LGBTQ Nation reports that he has promised to use “every avenue available” to oppose such laws, and that the American Medical Association “simply will not stand” for legislation opposing either transgender medical rights or abortion rights.
