Welcome to TMA Everyone.  I, Amanda, will lead you on this run through the trans entertainment world. As always, there are juicy goings-on. This is still a great time to be trans, no matter who tries to bring us down. You just can’t stop the entertainment, winning the hearts and minds or people everywhere.

Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant.

The television show Supergirl on the CW network (originally on CBS) is heading into its 4th season already. Seems like I just started watching it. I haven’t been keeping up for a long time, but in an announcement, a casting call went out to fill the shoes of Cat Grant, a main character in the vein of Perry White of old Superman fame. They want a transgender actress! The casting call reads: “Transgender woman, early 20s, open ethnicity. A confident, wunderkind of a fashionista. Once a political speechwriter, Nia is the newest addition to the Catco investigative reporting team. With her she brings sparkling wit and biting humor but under that banter-y, chic façade, lays a soulful young woman who has much to offer the world. A young ‘Cat Grant’ type.” Sounds pretty cool that they are casting such an integral part to a trans actress. I am sure every trans actress in their 20s or who looks to be in their 20s is answering the call. Exciting news.

Kim Petras, the crazy-beautiful trans pop star is continuing to mesmerize viewers and fans. Her latest video Heart To Break racked up over 1 million views in just 4 days. I gave it a listen and liked it a lot. It reminded me of when Katy Perry was just starting out. The video is very Teenage Dream-esque. I found myself enjoying the simple but lush and catchy song. Kim wants fans to concentrate more on her artistic talents than her transness, but doesn’t mind talking about from whence she came. At age 16, Kim was the youngest person to undergo GRS surgery. It is truly amazing to watch in awe as she struts her stuff and shows not one trace of her past. She is an amazing person and a budding talent. We will be watching her for sure. You can watch her video Heart To Break right here.

The breakthrough television show Transparent will end after next season. The show will have to carry on without Jeffery Tambor. Tambor was forced out by the show’s creators for alleged sexual advances on some cast members. Tambor has denied this. It will be hard to imagine the show without Tambor who won Emmy’s for his portrayal. The show was mostly centered around Maura, who Tambor portrayed, and her travails as an older trans person coming out into the world. The writing staff is now trying to figure out how to continue the show without Tambor. Filming will be in the summer for a September rollout of Season 5. It should be interesting.

Cait Jenner seems to be coming out of The Pink Cloud and into reality, no, not a reality show, just reality. She has admitted that the current administration has set trans rights back 20 years. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, she talks about how the relationships with her kids are strained. She spends a lot of time up in the hills of Malibu alone now days. Her kids “all have lives and have all moved on.” I am sad for Cait that it has come to this, but hope she finds her footing and can strike a balance. She is part of our community. She just made mistakes, ones that we all make, in the public eye. Best of Luck to Cait in the future.

Cast members in Venus.

A new comedy about coming out and family matters is called Venus. It was debuted at The New York Indian Film Festival. One of the main actors is not trans, which continues to be an issue, but they did win an award in Germany for Best Trans Performance once before. The film is described as “miraculously optimistic” even in the face of the heavy drama that goes on during the film. No spoilers, but it is said to have a happy ending.

And that brings this episode of Trans Media Arts to a happy ending too. Too-doo-loo everyone, and keep on readin’ TGForum!

Last Minute Update!: Pose premiers on FX June 3! Pose is a dance musical set in the 1980s that explores the juxtaposition the ball culture world in NYC, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and the NYC downtown social and literary scene. It has the largest cast of trans people ever assembled!
